We stayed at the Amari watergate for 4 nights, having been to Koh Samui for 14 nights - we were on our honeymoon.
This hotel was amazing- we were allocated a grand deluxe room which magnificent views of the city.
The best thing about this hotel was location - it is situated in the main shopping district, which hundreds of shops and very fancy shopping malls. There was also a small market outside the hotel.
The hotel itself was well equipped with luxury rooms, plenty of restaurants, a gym, rooftop pool and tropical gardens.
The Thai restaurant on the fourth floor is worth a visit, as is the American theme bar in the basement, which is lively in the evening.
We would recommend a trip on one of the river cruises, where you can see Bangkok at night. You can book this through one of the hotels on the river side, such as the Shangrai- la or the Pennisula.
All the staff at the hotel were extemely helpful and friendly. They could not do enough for us and we felt truly pampered!
We will def be back to Bangkok and to this hotel in particular.

The amari was as good as ever. Its our 6th time there and the service and quality of rooms keeps getting better. It was our 20th wedding anniversary and recived a lovely cake and flowers.
This hotel has the best location in the pratuum market area and a short cab ride to the MBK centre.Highly recommended.

We visited this hotel in March 2007 (wife and young son) but are submitting the review much later (June 2008) because we completely forgot about it! Yet, we fondly and often talk about our really enjoyable experience at the Amari Watergate and how much we would like to go back again.
We stayed on the 24th floor - every way possible, we have to give this place 5 stars and describe the facilities in superlatives! - superb rooms (with uniquely designed and large bathrooms); immaculate maintenance; great pool; fantastic view over Bangkok; delicious food and presentation and overall excellent service. There was nothing at all to fault. The location of the hotel is also very good - near the Platinum plaza and other shopping areas that are just a short walking distance away. Right outside the hotel, we got the tuk-tuk and my son loved the traditional thai cocunut water! We would also like to mention in particular the Thai restaurant that we often visited.
Though they offered babysitting services for a moderate fee, we preferred to take our son along everywhere and enjoy his antics. The wi-fi can be used for free in the lobby.
There was also light entertainment in the lobby and the fresh flower floral arrangements in the lobby were eye-catching.
To go around Bangkok, we liberally used the Lonely Planet to good effect.
Certainly, we would recommend this place to one and all and are waiting to get a chance to go back here again!

I have stayed at this hotel a few times and really like the location next to the markets and a short walk from the Central World Plaza and Big Sky Supermarket. The rooms are spacious and well equipped with large sized bathrooms and separate showers. The hotel has some good restaurants and a good bar 'Henry J Beans' in the Lower Lobby. Also good is the pool area and Clarks Hatch gym. I certainly prefer this area to the very touristy Sukhumvit Road despite the fact that the Skytrain is quite a walk away. I usually take a bus to the Patpong market at night, which is easy to do. Perhaps first timers to Bangkok might be better staying nearer to the river, but for me this hotel is fine.
