We went to Sunwing Bang Tao march 2008, for 2 weeks. Brought with us our 2 kids, 4 years and 21 months. We booked one of the suites with extra room + bathroom. Perfect, the children had their own bedroom, and we could enjoy the beautiful veranda without disturbing them. The hotel is filled with families with small children - I would NOT reccomend singles or young couples without children to travel here. You will get bored! No people outside their rooms after 11pm. Food at the hotel was ok, but very international. Most restaurants on the beach was half the price and much better! The beach was very nice, most days without any waves. Some stingers in the water, though. The market nearby, is okay but very crowded. We went on a boat trip with a long tail to rock island for snorkelling and a few hours on Banana Beach. Very nice! I think we paid about 800 Bath for 3 hours. The only really bad thing was that the main pool had really dirty water... We didn't swim there much, but some families experienced their small children getting sick!

The hoel was great - very busy but always enough room. we were first situated on the 2nd floor in block 1 (part of the admin block) and with 2 young kids being 2 floors up at the furthest part are the resort from the beach was not great. To the credit of the resort we were moved on the 2nd day and got into a ground floor unit in block 3 which is 5m from the pool and 50m from the sea - Much nicer. MAKE SURE you are anywhere nut block one. Breakfast was good and the rooms were spacious and all we needed. The staff were accomodating however all child entertainment is done in a Scandanavian langauge, we were luckly that your kids (3 and 5) were not old enough to participate but be aware of this if you kids are 6/7 or older. Its location to the beach is great and ease of access to the beach restaurants was fantastic, went top all the other beaches between bang toa and patong and all the others were too busy. Be aware that is difficult to get away and Taxi are expensive - I would recommend hiring a car B1200 per day and seeing the area. all up I would recommend this resort.

We stayed at this hotel in January this year (2008) with our 5 year old and 2 year old. The hotel is part of a chain of hotels which I believe may be Scandinavian owned and this appears to be the first built south of the equator. The resort calls itself the children's resort and it is definately correct. This resort is so catered for families it is perfect. It has a playground and sandpit area in the middle of the resort that is great for toddlers to 5 years. Crammed with toys you do not need to take anything to keep the children occupied as it is all there. There is an inside playroom that has toys and books however this has a more limited access and is closed for an hour at 1pm. They also have scheduled activities that you pay extra for, however if the child is under 3 they cannot attend. Secondly these activities are conducted in Swedish (I believe) as most of the children are from this area. You cannot use the playarea during the supervised activities but there is so much else to do. We were located next to Playland (as it is called) so it was great, we could watch the kids as they played. There are two table tennis tables (free), 4 playstations (100bhts per hour) and four computers with internet access. I agree that their internet service is probably the worst service in Phuket. Very slow and continually crashing. There are also snooker tables near the main pool(extra charge). There is a large grassed area that has soccer nets and balls set up and there is also badminton set up that can be used at any time.
We had breakfast included which wasn't too bad, fresh fruit, cereals, breads, donuts (??), yogurt, hot food, pretty much everything you could want. The hotel has a policy that children eat free with paying adults which is great. At dinner there is a special buffet for children, generally hamburgers, chips, hot dogs, pasta and vegies.
At 6pm everynight they show movies for the children and these run until about 8.30. This located next to the restaurant. Food at the restuarant is great. We had thai food majority of the time as we just love it, but my husband had something from the wstern menu and that was great too. Very hard to choose. A couple of times we ate at the restaurants on the beach but it ended up costing more as we had to pay for the children's meals. We noticed most of the guests had breakfast at the hotel, generally got snacks from the beach stallholders during the day and then dinner again at the resort restaurant.
Located right on the beautiful BangTao beach most rooms are a 10-20mtr walk to the beach. We stayed on two seperate occasions in January, the first time for two days where we had a pool access room. This had a small veranda area and then a gate that opened onto the pool with two lounge chairs at the front. The gate was a godsend as we could lock our two year in and not worry about him accidentally falling into the pool. It almost felt like it was our private pool as not many people used this pool. Probably because it had more shade and tended to be cooler than the other pools. It was also more shallower than the others. There are three pools at the resort, a larger pool on the left hand side of the resort and two pools on the right hand side of the resort. The larger pool is a much busier pool and tends to attract most of the guests, this is probably as it is the only pool with a swim up bar and a defined toddlers/pool beach area. We rarely used this pool as it felt more crowded and busier.
The room was great with a king size bed and a couch bed with a trundle. There are is a sheer curtain that separates the two beds which is great. The rooms were very spacious and had microwaves, fridges and crockery and cutlery.
January is the peak season for this resort, very busy as most of the guests are European and they go to Phuket to escape their winter. If you are from Australia I would recommend going over in june/July/ August. This is their quieter time and the room rates are significantly cheaper.
The resort has a self service laundry that we used for our stay (80 bhts for the washing machine and then 80bhts for the dryer). You can buy washing powder from the mini mart.
There is so much more I could write about this resort but please email me direct if there is something in particular you wish to know.

We stayed in the Sunwing resort for 2 weeks over the Christmas period and had a fantastic holiday. It is a nice, modern and clean resort with a choice of swimming pools and lots and lots of activities for children. It has direct access to a beautiful stretch of beach and plenty of local restaurants along the beach. Our room was very spacious with a double bed and 2 children's beds in a curtained off area. Bathroom was a generous size with both bath and shower. Nice balcony overlooking one of the swimming pools. Hotel food was good. The highlight of the holiday was the childrens' activity program which catered for all ages. Our children were asking to go to Miniland every day. The (mostly Scandinavian) staff organised treasure hunts, tshirt painting, pasta necklace making and many many more activities. There was a play and chat room for older kids with Playstation games. Every night there was a children's film, mini-disco and family show. Twice a week the children got to perform in their own show on stage. They were really well prepared and rehearsed by the fantastic staff. All the shows were in Swedish and English. Although the majority of families at the resort were Swedish, our children still managed to make a number of friends. And best of all, the entertainment finished about 10 o'clock at night, the bar closed at 11 and everyone got a good night's sleep which is important when the kids are awake at 6:30 ! I would highly recommend this resort to families.
