I would highly recommend this hotel. It is in a great location, on the coast. It has been renovated maintaining the old facade. The reception area is very welcoming there is a nice area for afternoon tea. Reception staff are charming and helpful. The room was a good size, very comfortable bed with a memory foam mattress and duvet. Spotlessly clean bathroom and functioning flat screen TV.
The gym is well equipped and they have a fabulous infinity pool, I am not a big swimming fan but this pool was so restful that I spent lots of time in it. There is also a spa available which I did not try. The location was ideal for me as I had a car and was within easy access to the Wicklow hills and the coast road.
The only dissappointment was the food. The restaurant is a beautiful room but the food is bland and there is a very unpleasant smell in the room. Hardy's bar is a better bet for a snack.
Breakfast is rubber eggs and greasy bacon.
However there are a number of excellent restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. I could not get into Hartley's they are booked three weeks in advance. I did go to Alexis twice and loved it. The food is very good, pretty presentation very tasty and fantastic service. Stay at the Royal Marine and eat at Alexis and you can't go wrong.

We stayed at The Royal Marine for two nights as part of a tour group. This accommodation is located in a Dublin suburb a considerable distance from Central City and the airport. It is well served by light rail and by the excellent Dublin city bus service. It is within walking distance of the ferry (to England) terminal.
The Royal Marine is an older facility which has been reasonably well maintaind. The service was good, although frequently provided by staff with limited English language skills. It should be noted that of the considerable number of hotels and B&B's that we stayed at in Ireland, this was the only place that felt that it was appropriate to charge their guests for Internet Service - definitely a turnoff!!!
This facility is pricey if you are travelling alone. You should be able to find a comparable facility more convenient to the city at the same or better price.

We stayed at the Royal Marine for Valentines Day. Our 2 night break was wonderful and great value for money. We booked a special deal (330euros for 2 nts b&b including valentines 4 course dinner!).
We were tempted to use the pattern flyer service but having stayed in Dublin before, we knew that it would be easy to get a bus so we opted for a 3 day unlimited travel ticket instead. There is a bus stop at the end of the hotel drive and buses came every 15 minutes.
On arrival we were overwhelmed with the luxurious manner of the hotel. It had a beautiful lobby entrance that was enhanced by the candlelit walkway. Our room was just as fantastic with great decor, flat screen plasma tv and lots of space. We had a sea view which made waking up on valentines day even more perfect!
We enjoyed looking at the memorabilia in the Hardy's bar and soaked in the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. However, venturing out to the local bars and restaurants in Dun Loaghaire was equally good.
The 1st night we ate at a gastro pub, just a short walk from the hotel. The food was lovely and the atmosphere was great. On the 2nd night we had our valetines meal in the hotel - every course was delicious and it was struggle to finish the chocolate heaven desert but somehow we managed it!
Overall the Royal Marine Hotel made our break one of of our best memories yet and we will definately go back the next time we visit Dublin!
