After spending some time researching the hotels on offer in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, I stumbled upon the Abode Rossetti. Despite some of the negative reviews, I chose to take a gamble and I have to say, was pleasantly surprised.
The location was very convenient having travelled up to the city by train, and the greeting from reception was most friendly and helpful.
The room was more than comfortable and I loved the contemporary style and attention to the smaller details.
Breakfast in the morning was excellent and again the staff were on hand to cater for every request. Upon check out we were offered the option of leaving our bags in a secure room whilst we made the most of the shops before our departure.
Overall, this was a most pleasant stay and I shall make no hesitation in recommending this hotel to friends and family.

The Rossetti could be good and it is a shame to see that potential being wasted by the current owners. The building is well located and benefits from spacious dimensions. Some areas display considerable character, maintaining some of the charm of this old building. Therefore, as you walk in your hopes are high.
That's when it starts to fall down. Where is the check-in desk? Oh, it's that isolated table in the corner round the left hand side with computer cables dangling all of the place. How untidy! Or maybe, just a little quirky - nothing wrong with being unusual perhaps? The bar and restaurant area in front of you looks OK.
Then off to the room. I had a spacious corner room and I must admit enjoying the walk up the unexpectedly impressive stairway. On opening the room door the first thing that strikes you is the minimalist style of decor. Nothing wrong with that ... except they have taken minimalist a little too far.
The double bed was so short I had to sleep diagonally (across a divide in the mattress down the middle). I'm only 6ft tall and I don't usually have this problem. This was not comfortable - and imagine if I had not been on my own! The pillows were very comfortable though. So, the primary purpose - a good night's sleep - was not achieved.
The TV was a complete joke. The cheapest possible (and smallest) TV you could find in any market lurked in the corner. At least I could watch the news, I thought. Silly me. The reception was so bad that all I could see was a snow storm of interference. What a pointless piece of equipment!
I was overlooked by offices outside my window, so if I wanted any privacy I had to draw the heavy curtains and turn on the lights. The bathroom was OK and everything was clean, which saved the day.
Breakfast was a standard English cooked affair with the usual range of cereals, breads, etc. It was only average in terms of selection and quality but, given the disappointment with the room, I felt quite relieved that it was average.
This is one hotel to which I will not be returning - there are a number of better alternatives around.

6 of us travelled over from Ireland for a weekend in Manchester. 4 of us flew from SNN and 2 from DUB.The couple who flew from Dublin arrived earlier and hadn't actually booked into this hotel. But a problem at The Palace hotel(overbooking of the rooms) caused us to stay in this hotel. When we arrived in the Hotel Rossetti at around 10pm all we could get to eat was a chicken sandwich (which cost e10!!!)I also had a vodka and coke(another e10!!).Breakfast the next morning was fine,we had breakfast price included in our package but if you don't make sure to bring a lot of money with you if you intend on eating the breakfast! The continental will set you back GBP9 and a fry will cost you GBP12...(e16 for a small fry!!!!)
One thing the hotel does have going for it is it's location, very close to Picadilly station and a shopping centre (the Arndale) just down the road.
One of the evenings we decided to have dinner in the hotel (only because it was the night of the Rugby World Cup Final and we knew the town would be packed everywhere else!)We all ordered main couses. One piece of advice...DON'T ORDER THE PASTA DISH!!!2 people at our table ordered it and boy did they get a shock when it came out!A huge bowl with about ten strips of pasta and about 2 mushrooms thrown in.You wouldn't give it as little as a starter. At a price of GPB10 (e15) for it, we were not letting it go.We asked the waitress to ask the chef would he add more pasta to the dish and she came back saying the chef would have to charge double the price to add more pasta. We were absolutely flabbergasted. After spending GBP600 to stay in the hotel the arrogant chef wouldn't even throw in an extra bit of pasta. When we asked to speak to the manager at the end of the meal to let our feelings be known he stood by his chef saying that they were the "standard portion sizes".....yeah right!!!!
The rooms were fine, not 4 star material. Like many people have already said, they are very minimalistic and have the tiniest tv I have ever seen in them.I mean at GBP100 a night they could afford to deck the rooms out a bit better.2couples I was with were woken up at 7am on our first morning to the sounds of builders banging bars and poles outside the hotel. They also claimed the rooms were very stuffy, while I thought our room was very drafty and the only view we had was the side of a red bricked building!
The waitress's and girls on reception were friendly however one of the barmen was a little ignorant.
This hotel has so much potential but sadly the people who are running it are only running it into the ground.
My advice......go and spend your hard earned money in a place where you will get value for it!!!

How it's changed. This place used to be a viable alternative to the Malmaison over the road, and a bit cheaper. Shabby chic, with funky artefacts in reception and rock posters on the walls. Now it's just shabby. Unhoovered reception and uncared for feel throughout. The landing kitchens - which felt different and useful three years ago are now scruffy and empty. When I stayed here before they were stocked with fruit and cereals. Now it's crappy freeze dried coffee, some teabags, a few individual sachets of milk (and that's all) in the vast fridge, and no cutlery. Room service after 10.30 told me that they could run to 'sandwiches' - chesse, ham, or chicken. "Is that all?" I asked, "Yeah" came the reply (with a very slight [--] off note in his voice), "With nothing else in them?", "Nah". "Don't bother", I said. I took my life in my hands and ventured out, amongst the noisy drunks of Piccadilly, to the Tesco Express up the road. (Get there before 11, or its dog burgers and people fighting outside pubs).
The fittings in the room look like they've come from a junk shop, and probably did. My writing table was drink-ringed and wobbly. The tV was tiny, must have cost about £40 to buy and offered just some badly tuned terrestrial channels and Sky News. There was nothing in the room about hotel services, mealtimes, all that stuff. Needless to say, no mini bar.
It's trying to have attitude, but the attitude is a bit too 'we don't really give a toss, we'll take your money off you and kid you all this tatty furniture makes the place, and you, cool'. Bad news at £100 a night. With the Malmaison right there, and The Place round the corner, I won't be back.

The Rosetti should be a great hotel but at present is not. Apparently
it is closing down soon and is being taken over so perhaps it will improve. The noise outside the hotel is dreadful especially when in the rooms at the back where an industrial company start loading and unloading lorries and banging skips around really loudly from 6.30 am and this goes on constantly. We also had the misfortune of a housekeeping room outside our door and staff banged in and out of that from early morning with no consideration for guests. We are often in Manchester and this was the first time we stayed here. There is also no fridge or tea making facilities in the rooms although there is a communal kitchen which guests can use. There is no wireless internet. We did not use the bar or restaurant during our
3 day stay as there was never another person in them. There are many better options in Manchester! Anyway its closing for 6 months so hopefully it will be much better in 2008 although we will not be risking it!
