Just back from the 1001 Knights Hotel (aka Alf Leila Wa Leila Hotel).
The hotel is located in the middle of no where and was built in about 1997. It is just begining to show its age. It looks like something out of 'Disney Land', ie very tacky in style. It is painted in every colour of the rainbow too!
Ignoring the fact that it was painted by a blind man in the dark and the lack of taste, it does exactly what it says on the tin!
The rooms are good/adequate, they are spotlesly clean and the bedding is changed evry other day. Aircon/heating is efficient and quiet in operation. Shower was not a power shower but it was adequate. Lots of hot water although you had to let the tap run for at least 5 minutes in the mornings to get it if you were up early. (long pipe run from storage to rooms?)
4 swimming pools to choose from (one is heated), all very clean and there are pleanty of sun beds.
Food was excellent. All meals were 'open buffett' style. Pleanty of variety and every day there was a fish dish, 2 pasta dishes, 2 meat dishes and tons of veg, salad and potatoes etc. Sweet consists of various cakes, tarts and flans etc Only problem was seating availability. Most folks wanted to dine as soon as the resaurant opened and so there was a bun fight for the seats. If you wait till a little later there were no problems. This made the dining experience much more enjoyable.
Generally the staff were very well mannered and polite, becomming positively unctious after being generously tipped. Tipping is almost mandatory in Egypt. You will always be served politely but if you tip well they go overboard to serve you. In fact, it is like buying extra service or bribery even.
The hotel is about a 10 minute stroll from the beach. The hotel shares beach facilities with it's sister hotel the 'Dana Beach'. There is a beach bar and restaurant serving hot food and all the normal drinks ect. For those who don't want to walk there is a free shuttle bus service (20 seater mini bus). Be warned that 200 guests all want to use it at 10 in the morning to get to the beach and 200 want to come back at 3.30 in the afternoon. Advice>>>> Go to the beach at 9.30 and you will be the only one on the bus, come home at 3.00 and again you will have all the bus to yourself. Be warned that queing is a British institution so if you are foolish enough to travel in 'rush hour' be prepared to fight to get on the bus!
As the hotel is in the middle of nowhere there is no life within walking distance. However the town of Hurghada is only a short taxi ride away if you want to spend time with the locals.
All in all it was fantastic value for money and I have a sun tan in February! Would I go back? More than likely.

I'm just back from my 3rd stay at Alf leila wa leila in the last 12 months. Before i went last year, read terrible reviews after i came back but have to say that i love the hotel and will be staying again. The hotel is situated quite a way out of Hurghada but has a fairly decent amount of shops in the complex and a shopping strip about 10 mins walk away (make sure when you're haggling that you get them down to about 30-40% of the original price at the very least). Food was decent though i went on a trip to Luxor and stayed at a 5* hotel (maritim jolie ville) which had REAL coffee which was something i missed at Alf leila wa leila (though i took my own nescafe with me). The hotel has 6 pools, a new amphitheatre for the very enthusiastic (though not the most talented) entertainment team, a couple of extra restaurants and a half hourly bus to the nearest beach (about a 10 min journey). For the price I paid, I loved it and have so far returned with my young nieces (feb 07) and my best mate (nov 07). Looking forward to going back again
