Although we knew this was not a standard four star hotel because of the art, we did not expect that art is another word for mess, dirt, and lack of service. So when we checked in we were disappointed. I really like the idea of the hotel. Turning an old factory into something nice. But the way it has been done is very unprofessional. First of all they did not restore the factory in such a manner that it can ever be a four star hotel. The construction materials used, the bathroom and the furniture are all of low and uncomfortable quality. And I highly doubt whether anybody who works there has real education in hospitality. So why? The room was very dusty We had curtains that did not close We had to put the plug for the tv and the minibar into the socket. So the drinks were warm The room was very cold There was pubic hair on the toilet seat! The walls showed clear signs of water leakage from above The bathroom did not have tub The bathroom lacked a shower curtain and as the angle of the floor was the wrong way, the whole bathroom was wet There were extra beds, mattresses, childrens' chairs and other kinds of materials blocking the hall and stairways The food in the restaurant was cold The service in the restaurant was so slow that you saw many people being annoyed by it They allowed smoking at breakfast There was no door between the breakfast room and a toilet, so I was looking at toilet (the actual pot!) when eating my breakfast All in all a huge disappointment. It is max three star. But the way we experienced it, was 2 stars at the most. And next to that. Wuppertal is only good as a stopover.

My girlfriends and I stayed at the Art Fabrik Hotel for a weekend in October 2007. The hotel is really fun and unique. Filled with art. The rooms were large and the beds were very comfortable. Free mini bar was a treat. The staff was helpful and courteous. We were able to view the artist's rooms which are huge and very colorful. The three of us each got our own single rooms because the price was so reasonble. We would most likely get an artist room and double up next time since there is plenty of room. The beds were twin with nice linens. The train station is very close. We took a cab from the station when we arrived and it cost 7 euros. Once we knew our way we took the short walk to the station. It was very quiet and the temperature of the room was fine. I would highly recommend this hotel. Breakfast comes with the room now and was very good. Restaurant was good too. We had dinner there two nights!
