Booked this hotel at very short notice - same day - and were slightly worried about how reasonable the price seemed compared to the others we phoned. However on arrival we were absolutely delighted with the suite, which was huge, well furnished and very comfortable. It consisted of a large lounge area, a good sized bedroom with enormous bed and a bathroom with bath and shower.
The reception team are well informed and helpful and the hotel is in a good location for exploring the City as there's a metro station just down the road.
Public areas are smart and well furnished.
Breakfast was fine, bread of various kinds, scrambled egg and sausages, fruit , cold meats and cheeses.
Whilst there if you can get to the fish restaurant at Cais de sodre station- between the station and the ferry terminal you will not regret it - fantastic service and wonderful food including the best chocolate cake Ive ever had!

PREVED!
We've been there in the end of August. Previously we booked VIP Madrid (it's round the corner, near VIP Suites Do Marques).
But when we arrived thehe occured probs with electrycity just on the leavel, where we booked a room. I like portugese innocent lies. I suppose they just forgot. :-)))
Anyway they offered us Do Marques for "the same price". Next time I woldn't stay there even if they pay me.
They need restyling of the interiours last 15 years I think so.
When I tryed to use safety box handle has broke... the same thing happened with wardrobe - the door just fall.
But room was large and almost clean (I suppose they did their best).
It could be sadfull if it wouldn't prepare us for folowing visit of the historical center of ex-luxary town.
Breakfast scares. Better not to it THAT.
Ppl livin' in hotel. I've got feeling that many rooms rented by brasilian prostitutes and strange British ppl (strange even for UK). Howewer, somebody like it.
One good thing is lokation. Nearby Pombal square and sabway station. Nice walk down by Avenida Libertadi to the historical center. Avenue is charming.

Once upon a time... this must have been a great hotel

Once this must have been a great hotel! But now it isn't any more. They need to invest to make this hotel up-to-date again. There are some little problems that make the hotel look old and in a bad shape.
In our room we had:
- a window that didn't close well
- a light swith that fell off
- the wooden wal (that can separate the bed- and the sitting area) that needs to be repainted
They only fill up the mini bar if you ask so, but the prices are much too high (go to the supermarket down the street!!!)
The swimming pool is too small (just one person fits in) and the breakfast was okay, but not the best
The hotel is at a 2 metro stations from the centre (by feet it is too far, but metro works nice)
BUT: the room is really big
Une bonne surprise

Ce fut une bonne surprise... chambre très grande et spacieuse... salle de bain propre.... plutôt pas trop mal placé.... pour le prix, c'est vraiment une belle occasion

We just returned from a 14 day trip to Spain and Portugal. We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. I was the worst hotel we have ever stayed at in Europe. It really put a damper on the last leg of the trip. First of all the staff is not Friendly at all. We booked the hotel through an online website. Our confirmation showed we purchased breakfast but when we got there we were told breakfast was not included in the price and that we had to call our travel agent to resolve the matter (even though we had a purchased confirmation that said otherwise). We asked for a triple room. The triple bed turned out to be a sofa bed. The rooms were filthy. The carpet was stained. There were holes in the closet. Black stain marks on the walls. The bathroom shower head broke, the hair dryer kept coming apart and had to be held with a hand towel because it would get so hot we couldn't hold it long enough to dry our hair. There was mildew in the bathroom, I can go on for ever. Please stay away from this hotel it was a horrid experience.
