Poor value

I'm pretty tolerant when it comes to hotels, but I was disappointed by the Renoir.
The location was good, I thought. Not far from the Metro, a few nice bars and creperies nearby. But the hotel itself tarnished our stay in Paris.
We were woken up on the Saturday morning by the sound of somebody drilling on the corridor outside. Not just the odd screw going in, but incessant drilling. All morning.
Our double room was very small and the top sheet on the bed smelt of the previous guest - I guess he/she was sweaty.
However, the real stinker came when we checked out. Hoping to leave our bags until later in the day we were told there would be a charge for each bag left. Having paid for three nights' accomodation I thought this was a bit petty.
I appreciate we didn't pay Ritz prices, but then we weren't expecting Ritz levels of service. We just expected more than we got.
Great value hotel

Read reviews and my expectations were pretty low. What a pleasant surprise, staff were friendly and courteous, location was fantastic - right in the heart of things and okay, room wasn't huge, but was clean, comfortable and had all the facilities we required. Admittedly, the decor was a bit 'tired', but we knew we weren't going to get the Ritz with a lastminute.com cheap deal. We had booked a triple room for a short family (10 year old came with us) sight seeing trip and I would compare the standard to that of perhaps a Travel lodge. If you're planning a romantic holiday/honeymoon then Hotel Renoir isn't going to tick the right boxes - but then lets face it , your in Paris reputedly the most romantic city in the world! In a nutshell I would definately book again and I have a reputation for being very fussy! As long as your expectations are realistic you'll have a fantastic stay.
Our worst hotel experience: No towels, blocked toilet, rude and unhelpful staff

Upon arrival the woman at reception told us four times to lock all our valuables in the safe, leaving us in an instant state of paranoia.
The toilet was blocked with faecal matter from the last guest and subsequently the whole room smelt.
The room was nothing like the picture displayed on the website, instead being incredibly small and in poor condition. I disagree entirely with their claim that the hotel has new decor and modern facilities.
On the second day having spent the whole day walking around Paris we returned to our room to shower before going out. We were not able to shower as there were no new towels provided in the room. Asking the man on the front desk he said that the cleaning service had not come and that there would be no towels delivered at all. He told me I could go up the road to their sister hotel and collect one but he could not provide one himself. After I told him that was outrageous I insisted he find something and he gave me two floor mats which as the name suggests belong on the floor and not for drying yourself.
I tried to speak to management but was told that they were on holidays and when I asked for the name of the woman at the front desk in the sister hotel she refused to give it to me and instead called the police as she felt that was the only way to deal with my problem.
No one dealt with any of my problems at any point, where all they could tell me is that I should bring it up with management, but no one could tell me who he/ she was. Staff were totally apathetic and unwilling to take responsibility at all.
This was the most underwhelming and disappointing stay we have ever had.

How this hotel is graded a 3 star I will never know. To start with the location is not good, not sure if people are expecting a nice little hotel in St Germain because if you are then you will not be happy. The hotel is located near Montparnasse which basically is the most un-pretty part of paris I think I have seen.
Next was the room! Oh the room, well to be honest I have stayed at better hostels. On our arrival we were not greeted paticulary nicely, a smile would have been nice after a long trip. When I got to the room the towels were still wet and on the floor, soap was in the sink and the pillows were turned up vertically as if someone had been reading in bed only minutes before. I went to the reception and asked for some clean towels. The man at reception made me feel like I was asking to go back to his house and for his wife to cook me dinner ! He questioned me asking if I was sure? I offered for him to come to the room to see but he decided against the idea and handed over some towels. I left the pillow and soap issue as was tired and wanted to get out of the hotel and have something to eat in Paris.
The room was tatty to say the least, it was dirty, the walls seemed to be like off a soap opera set and we only had one small wardrobe with 4 coat hangers in ito share.
If this hotel was a 2 star then my review would obviousley take into account this but there is no way on earth this hotel is a 3 star establishment.
I was really let down and the photo's online are nothing like the actual experience.
Do not take chances with this hotel, it is awfull and I am not even that fussy !

Went for a three day break in Paris. Stayed at the Hotel Renoir in Montparnasse.
The Hotel was clean, breakfasts were good, Staff friendly and very helpful. The location of the hotel is ideal for Sight Seeing on the Left Bank which you can get to either by walking or catching the Metro etc.
There are plenty of Bars and Restaurants near to the Hotel so that if you don't want to go far you needn't.
All in all a great Hotel and we would certainly stay there again
