The Blake Hotel has a high amount of potential, but for now you are better off seeking other options.
While a renovation is underway, that doesn't excuse some of the service problems that exist today.
Let's talk about parking first, $15 is a little steep, but more importantly, the fact that it is two separate transactions with a different company just demonstrates that this hotel is not interested in working with or for the customer. Why can't the parking company and hotel work together so they bill each other directly? The hike from the parking to the lobby is extensive, so if you mind walking, use the valet (same price).
The Room. Imagine going back to the 1970's and opening a hotel room door at the Ramada or Holiday Inn. The decor can not be better described. The TV was nice, but it pretty much ends there.
I got this room through Hotwire and I will not trust Hotwire again for 3* hotels in Charlotte.
The gym is simple, the restaurant and pool were closed (both months from being usable.
Do yourself a favor, look elsewhere.

Me and my wife stayed here for that Coca-Cola 600 race. We got free tickets and needed a weekend away from the kids so I booked us a night to stay over. The room was very nice. Had a Flat-Screen T.V., very comfortable Kingsized bed, and the shower had excellent water pressure. I had read some reviews and was a little worried but was very satisfied with our stay. Parking was 15.00 and our room was 99.99 going directly through them. I would stay here any time. We didn't want to swim but the pool was under construction when we were there. Other than that it was perfect.

Good if you get a deal

This is a good hotel if you get a deal on it, though I do not think I would have paid full price. They are obviously mid-remodel as the front lobby looks great and modern, but after you turn the corner you seem to step into a different hotel. Our room was nice, though right next to the elevators that beeped all night (probably why that room was a deal!) The beds/desk were nice, new and modern, but then you step into the bathroom that looked like it was done in the 70s? Older bathrooms just seem to feel more dirty as this one did. The thermostat seemed to be from the 70s and really had no affect on the air conditioning.
This will probably be a great hotel, especially with proximity to downtown Charlotte, once they finish updating everything.

We have always wanted to check out Charlotte as we have heard it is a great city so it was the perfect opportunity to do so on our way driving down to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. When looking for places to stay in Charlotte, we decided on The Blake basically because we named our own price on Priceline.com and that's what we got. Some of the reviews we had read before going had us scared but we were pleased with our stay. The lobby is beautiful. There is a pool table and it's design is very up to date and trendy. We loved the enclosed wicker chairs at the valet. Which was interesting - you can either pay $15 per day to self park or $15 per day for valet. The self park is across the street and if you have a lot of luggage like we did, why not just go valet for the same price? Weird. Anyway, we were on the hunt for dinner as soon as we got in so we asked the front desk for a recommendation. They recommended Dillworth's and said it was a short walk away up the street - which it was, but we got in way after dark fell and the walk was a little scary. Charlotte could be the safest city in the world, but if you are traveling alone and going there after dark, I would be wary of walking under a dark, dark underpass as we did to get there. Our room was very nicely decorated, but they only gave us one pillow each which kind of took away from the comfort of our sleep. The bathroom was a disaster. The lighting was yellow and gross and the bathroom was not the cleanest I have ever been in. However, they hugely display that they are under renovation and the bathrooms are part of that renovation. The walls are paper thin as well. We heard someone's alarm clock blaring at 5 a.m. and they were NOT waking up so it woke us up and was hard to get back to sleep. We had read up on The Coffee Cup before we went and stopped in for lunch the next day. The people were so friendly and it is a true showing of down home soul food. We went again for breakfast the next day. I would not recommend this hotel for a good feel of Charlotte, however, if we are passing through again, and the price was right, we would stay again.

Ongoing construction and renovation. Ants in the bathroom. Broken elevators and elevator controls. No water pressure, major temperature control issues in the room. Harassed daily to check out when we booked 3 nights. Unsafe and long walk to downtown. The staff was not knowledgeable about the area and could not provide directions or recommendations. The best part of our stay was when we got to check out of the hotel.
Traveler's Tip:
Blue Restaurant & Bar - Outstanding service, excellent food, fantastic Martini selection, great live music.
Charlotte Bobcats Arena - Friendly staff, great venue and location.
Noda (take a cab to get there, don't walk!) - Cabo Fish Taco
