Earlier reviews had frightened us a bit, but the hotel was fine for what we needed. It was clean but worn--they obviously haven't updated it as it needs paint, furniture, etc. The location is great: the hotel is in the heart of downtown, which makes it easy to walk to any of the downtown attractions. We cannot recommend that anyone pay full price here, but it was satisfactory for an inexpensive stay. This is not a three-star hotel!

Hello all,
I went to Springfield, IL a week or so ago on business and was totally disgusted by the rooms and customer service by Abraham Lincoln Hotel ,and staff. Now, this is The Capitol of IL , and my home city is Chicago so I was very excited to see what our great Capitol City had to offer. I was there on a Goverment rate and was told by the front desk that the goverment rate did not apply that day which was a Wed. From what I observed, there were no conventions at the hotel or any special events. As a matter of fact ,I was the only person in line for at least 20 mins. To add insult to injury, I was also told that my reservation was not showing up on the system. Now... let's keep in mind that I booked my hotel stay the night before. (Go figure)
I proceeded up to the room after going through turmoil about my reservation and was even more disgusted. When I got into the room to unpack and relax I was overwhemled with the conditions of the bathroom and the bed linen, as well as the water spots on the ceiling. The grout on the batheroom floors was super dirty. There was lots of hair in the bathtub and the pillow cases were discolored. When I proceded to remove the pillow cases I was ready to puke. The stains on the pillows looked like the hotel had had them for for about 10 years. I ran for the phone to call the front desk and explain what I witnessed. I was asked what would I like them to do? I replied " How about give your guest clean rooms". The front desk clerk ask if she could send someone up to clean the room? I said to her, I don't think that grout could be cleaned in 20 or 30 mins. I suggested being put in another room. If this is what The Great Capitol Of IL has to offer, then the State Of IL has to approve a new budget to do a serious overhaul and renovation of this hotel,as well as esta blishing a better customer service program.
I eventualy checked out and met up with some colleagues from Chicago at their hotel The Crowne Plaza which was a five star hotel. The Executive Suites at The Plaza were phenomenal, the staff was very friendly and helpful. This was diffently a Ritz Carlton experience and I will book all my upcoming hotel stays at The Crown Plaza.

While the staff was friendly, the hotel rooms were dirty and smelled very strongly of mildew and mold. In my room, there were food crumbs on the floor, dust everywhere, and the amenities were old and outdated. On the plus side, we had a meeting at the hotel, and the catering and events staff were very helpful, pleasant, and provided us with everything we needed.

This hotel has had a lot of ownership problems the past couple of years since they lost the Renaissance Hotel name. The state of Illinios is apparently the owner now after the hotel went into receivership.
My stay was memorable in that I had a back ache for 3 weeks following my stay at the Abe Lincoln. The beds are HORRIBLE! Worse than I could imagine a hotel that was supposed to be a 4 star hotel according to Priceline. This hotel would barely rate a 1 in my book. Thank goodness I didn't pay the rack rate for a room here or I would have felt more cheated than I did. The hotel sites need to send a representative to this place so they can see it is clearly not a 3 or 4 star hotel. It's unfair to the traveling public to rate this one of the top hotels in Springfield. I would rather stay at a Red Roof Inn than at this hotel.

This place has an old 2 pipe HVAC system and to save $ (?) they decided not to turn on their chiller. The hot days really heated up our room and the locked windows could not be opened. When I complained, the desk told me that maintenance would unlock my window. The guy who showed up gave me a lame excuse that “he could not find the tools he needed to open the window”.
A very uncomfortable night.
