Windsor Barra - great conference hotel on the beach

This is essentially a modern business conference hotel and for that, it works well. For a family, there are better beaches in Rio although there is nothing wrong with that stretch, but there are few activities for kids etc. Its safe and secure.
General staff were above average and the conference staff are superbly helpful. The internet is iffy but the rooms are nice - most have a view of the beach. Had an A/C problem, fixed within 4 minutes of the call!
In summary, a good conference venue, but a long way out of Rio itself so not ideal for a tourist spot. Its between 45 minutes and an hour from GIG airport.

A standard, functional option in Barra. Beach right opposite, and the views were nice, except for the rain!
Room was fine with a little balcony, which was nice. Breakfast was nothing exceptional, but OK, likewise for dinner.

In agreement with other reviewers - the only reason we were booked at this hotel was a conference. Since this property is used often for business, the hotel should adopt a more enlightened internet policy. $50US for a 24 hour wireless connection is absurd, after paying hundreds per night for a room. According to staff, this outrageous policy is controlled by distant owners.
Infrastructure OK - ample electrical outlets in the room to recharge electronic devices, elevators ran frequently.
Food from room service (on a Sunday evening) was abominable.

Stayed for a business meeting. Barra is a long way from the centre/interesting parts of Rio so quite a journey and often terrible traffic jams. The beach at Barra and the esplanade is very beautiful until you look inland and see the Miami-style development of huge apartment blocks. The hotel is fine but boring. The restaurant a massive (and while we were there) mainly empty cavern. The rooftop bar and swimming pool should be good but even with4 guests it took 45 minutes to get a drink and a sandwich - on two days running. So fine as a business centre but not much else going for it.

Spent 4 nights at the Windsor Barra - attending a conference at the hotel. Staff were excellent. I was upgraded to a suite - excellent. But I could not get the internet to work...I had 3 staff helping to get it sorted. Then everytime they saw me in the hotel - they stopped to ask me was everything ok, was I enjoying my stay?
Pool area is great. Bar is small but fine. Breakfast is fine if you are happy with fruit, pastries, clod meat - if you like bacon and eggs well that is not going to happen here....had lunch in the restaurant one of the days - ok not great, but fine.
The locatiion is not the liveliest....but it worked for me as we were attending the conference. Check out the Barra Grill, free transport from and to the hotel just ask at reception and the meat is excellent and well priced.
