I attended a conference held at this hotel. The building is very unattractive, both outside & in. The ceilings are low, carpet is worn and ugly, the wallpaper is peeling, and the decor is cheap. In addition, the Wausau Plaza is profoundly understaffed. Because it is a cheap hotel, there are lots of families with grade-school aged children here. Be prepared for noise & interruptions. Also: parking is scarce.

You know. This community is usually dead on with the reviews. But let me tell you...
I am a full time touring musician and producer, I am on the road 200 days a year.
THIS PLACE IS PRETTY GOOD
especially if you get a good rate.
safe, clean, bright, updated, GREAT workout area WITH free weights!
this place is hardly the dump people here have made it out to be.
that said, I stayed in the circular hall part (the front rooms). i cannot vouch for the rooms near the back.

We recently stayed at this hotel for two nights; we had a 'poolside' room and planned on having a nice weekend. The hotel was in terrible shape, the room was dated and the advertised two pools and two 20 person hot tubs is a flat lie. Currently there is one pool and one large hot tub. There is a second hot tub in the exercise area but it only holds about ten people comfortably. Also the poolside room was incredibly noisy each morning we awoke at 7:30 to screaming kids getting ready to swim when the pool opened at 8:00. Also the pool and large hot tub were so crowded with kids we never even attempted to use these facilities. So, in short, we had a stinky (chlorine), humid room which was VERY noisy from 7:30 in the morning to 10:30 at night. Also I tried to complain about the noise and asked for our second night to be refunded so we could leave and stay someplace else but was basically laughed at and told to deal with it.

We recently stayed at the plaza new years weakend for a ski trip.We booked two poolside rooms,we had quite a drive so when we got to the hotel(not hard to find)around 4:00 pm we were a little upset to find our room not ready (along with many other guests).when we finally got into our room about 4:45 pm it was an average room 2nd floor not poolside but upstairs oh well-there is only one main elevator front of building a little inconvienient! The room had a refridge, microwave and wireless internet! The beds were very comfortable , i noticed mold on the shower curtains(yikes). We went downstairs for supper would not recomend, it was buffet style the food was cold and not a great selection! We also ate the breakfeast buffet a little better-the complimentary was nice the usual but lots of people and a very small area! The pool was nice also the hot tub-which neither we used!We ended up coming home a day early due to an emergency and the hotel did refund us(very nice). They seemed to be a little slow-we seemed to have a problem reserving the room we called a month in advance they said there were plenty of rooms available ,same day called back to reserve and wow they were all gone , tried next am-and beleive it or not there were plenty of rooms-guess it depends on whose working!we asked for a smoking room and were all gone-but the couple we met up with wich wanted non-smoking got a smoking room and booked after us!they had dirty linen among a few other problems!I dont know if we would stay here again,we like trying new places! The hotel was ok we went to skii-not just lounge! They do allow pets which was a plus for us(small Pets).I would rather stay at the best western down the road which was of course booked-Oh yes this hotel had many rooms available all 3 nights!Overall it was o.k.(there was also a nice bar which we did not use!
