I was apart of a tour group that booked us for two nights at the Bunratty and all I can say is OMG. The place was filty, the corridors leading to the rooms smelled of dust and smoke, the room was filthy, carpets were stained, the bedspreads were dusty and dirty. The breakfast was one of the worst we have ever had in a hotel. After a full day at the castle my husband refused to return to the Slumratty Shannon SCAMrock Hotel so we found a wonderful B&B close by. The Bunratty Caslte Mews located in the Village of Bunratty.
It was like night and day, the Bunratty Castle Mews was extremely clean, the food was great and Dolores, the hostess was wonderful. If you are going to visit the castle and want to stay over stay in at the Bunratty Castle mews or any of the several other places nearby. But avoid the Slumratty Scamrock hotel at all cost.

this was my 5th trip to ireland...and our first and last stay at the Bunratty Shannon Shamrock. It was dirty, and the rooms leaked so bad that when anyone complained to the manager, they said "yes, they knew" and if you would like a pot the would give you one !!!!! Stay anyplace else. There are some very nice B&B's in the neighborhood, they are clean and inexpensive.

The only good thing about this place is that it is close to Shannon airport; but, so are any number of B&Bs in the same area. The lobby is OK; but from there on, it is a steep decline. The hallway leading to the room was dark and smelled of stale smoke and unwashed bodies; cheap, industrial grade, rubber-back throww rugs covered holes in the flooring. The room smelled musty and stale. We complained and were moved to another room.
The second room was not quite as bad but we were glad that we still had some Fabreze Air Freshener left in the can. The beds were OK and the sheets were clean. The carpets, however, were matted down and dirty; the windows were cloudy with dirt. Neither looked like they had been cleaned since the place was built.
Breakfast was a semi-warm buffet of the standard fare; however, it was in no way up to the standard we had come to expect after two weeks in Ireland; the eggs were crusty and overcooked, the bacon was floating in grease, the tomatoes were burned--not broiled, the sausage was shrivelled as from the cold. The kitchen had run out of decaf coffee. A truly unappetising table.
For almost $150 for one night for the two of us, this was the worst ripoff in Ireland!

I had the dubious pleasure of staying in the Shannon Shamrock this past weekend with a large group of frends for a wedding. I'm sorry to say that the whole experience left a lot to be desired. We arrived just after 9pm from Shannon airport and were told the kitchen was closed so there was not even the option of a toasted sandwich. Thankfully there was a vending machine selling Pringles...
Breakfast the next morning was frankly one of the worst hotel breakfasts I have ever had. The restaurant itself is desperately in need of a refurb and the fact that you can see right into the swimming pool (it's directly next door) was slightly offputting.
The rooms were extremely basic and the bathroom felt dated and dirty. The socket for the shaver in the bathroom was broken. The hotel corridors werer filthy and the carpets were in dire need of a vacum - I know this because I dropped something on the floor and when picked up it was filthy. During the two nights we stayed the phone rang a number of times and the fire alarm went off repeatedly on the second night.
This hotel may have been a star in it's earlier days but in 2008, it felt dated, dirty and expensive.

I and a group of Friends stayed at this Hotel on 11 June , In total we took 3 rooms , We booked it because of its Location in close proximity to Bunratty Castle and Banquet , which we were attending that night , The Hotel was like something from the 1970 's , The exterior was offputting to say the least . with electric cables and tube lighting clipped along the facade , Inside was faded , musty , and in some places the corridor carpets were damaged and covered with rubber backed rugs , all repair works in the hotel seem to have been carried out by non professionals , in a patch up or make do fashion , In one of the rooms the Electric light fitting was hanging from the ceiling instead of being recessed , The ensuite bathroom was sub standard , The Leisure centre didn't have a swim hat or a pair of men's trunks available for sale in the reception , the steam room had a nauseating smell as did the sauna which was again patched up , the pool was ok , the jacuzzi was only quarter full with water and was filthy , - There is no way that we would have stayed at this hotel , but for the fact that we had booked it and secured that booking with a credit card which would have charged us the full amount had we cancelled within 24 hours . the cost of stay was ? 89 per room , sickening to see so many other hotels between Bunratty and Moher for just ? 40 . I was expecting to see Basil Fawlty , maybe he took the night off ? :)
