Agradable y confortable

I went to a wedding in Vigo in summer 2005 and stayed in this hotel. I would recommend it. The beds were very confortable, the room was clean and nicely decorated (it does not have the feel of of a chain hotel). The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I visit Vigo frequently on business and always stay at the Hesperia - unless I make a last minute trip and find that there's no room at the inn.
The hotel is big, modern and attractive inside - lots of polished granite and marble
The rooms are of medium to large size, (luck of the draw determines what you get, and I've been in most of them) spotlessly clean with modrern, low key, good quality furnishings. The beds are very comfortable - romantics beware, a double room is normaly two single beds pushed together, but they are great nonetheless.
Light sleepers should request a room away from the main street side of the hotel - I've had colleagues complain about the noise, although it has never been a problem for me. Closet space is adequate, even for the long stay guest. Cable TV with Spanish, French and German channels, but typicaly only European CNN in English. Minibar is reasonably priced and well stocked.
Baths are large, well lit & maintained and wonderfully equipped. Marble floors & walls, big soft towels - no complaints.
Friendly bar. a little sterile, but the selection, price and service are good.
Staff is very courteous, helpfull and friendly. A French colleague once called me at the hotel in a panic, he was completely lost - one of desk people took my phone and spent 30 minutes talking him into a controled crash landing at the hotel.
Check in and out is always smooth unless you try it at 8:30 am when every other business traveller wants to hit the bricks. To beat the rush, I always check out before breakfast and leave my bags in the office (the staff is delighted to do this for you) while I enjoy the very good breakfast buffet - be sure to sample the thin sliced Iberian ham, it's outstanding.
Breakfast at the hotel is always good, but my lone experience for dinner was not the best. Bad night maybe, but Vigo boasts fabulous food and a lot of really wonderfull restaraunts - so when I get to visit there, anything less than perfection is a dissapointment.
The hotel's location isn't the best for sightseeing or evening walks in the normaly pleasant Vigo weather, but it is convenient to everything by car and the price is reasonable - I'd negotiate, as I see it listed at over 100 euro, but our corporate rate is about 65 and I can't imagine why such a large difference.
Another reviewer knocked Vigo and I don't understand why. It does have an industrial section, but on the whole, it's an ancient and beautifull seaside city with a rich history, wonderfull food and friendly people. I've travelled alot of cities in Spain and Portugal and Vigo is among my favorites.
Hint - the 'A Roda restaraunt' is about 8 blocks away and it's fantastic. Typical, quaint and rambling, helter skelter spanish style - everything cooked over an open wood fire or baked in a woodfire oven. The exterior is nothing to shout about, but don't let that scare you off - they have a large and loyal local following for good reason. It's easy walking distance from the hotel and the staff will be happy to direct you.
Back to the Hesperia. It's excellent for the business traveller or the tourist, provided they have a car. I'll be back again and again.

Good hotel, although the location is not perfect (but then what would be a good location in Vigo?).
