This hotel has seemed to have got some really bad press. Reading the reviews on here almost made me cancel my booking, but the helpful girls from the agent I booked with asked me to stick with it....And I'm glad I did.
I telephoned the day before my arrival to ask for a room away from the noise of the metro and the hotel manager was very pleasant and obliging....I was really nervous about the hotel still, more so because I was visiting Paris with my boyfriend and he had never been to the city before...so a bad hotel experience would potentially have ruined his holiday.
The room we had was brilliant! There was a fantastic view from the balcony. We were yards away from great little brassaries. We were in walking distance of ....the Sacre Coeur, the Dali Museum, the Moulin Rouge and much much more. The area of Montmatre is so ideal and great for those of an arty disposition.
We found a brilliant seafood restaurant and other little eateries. The hotel was very close to the metro so travelling to other areas of Paris was a doddle.
Moral to this story is: sometimes take a risk...it worked out well for me. Don't judge standard Parisian hotels by those enjoyed in the US. They are different styles, history and atmosphere. If your idea of a good holiday is to stay lounging in your hotel room then go for the plush 5* ones. Otherwise the Berne Opera will do just fine!

Having just read the awful reviews some people have given this place, I just had to do it justice.
This is a LOVELY hotel, + at a great price it's good value too. The rooms aren't huge (but no smaller than other 3* places), and it's location is not uber central, but it really was a great little place to stay. The decor is nice (authentically parisian), the staff were incredibly friendly on our arrival, and the location is right near a metro stop (Rome) - so buy a 'paris visite' and you're good to go.
I think some people are just too fussy. Sure, if your used to five star luxury, this might be a bit 'beneath' you, but I've stayed in Paris FIVE times and this is my favourite hotel yet. I may even be re-visiting this summer. So enjoy...

We felt a bit sceptical after reading bad reviews about this hotel but it was too late to cancel. We were disappointed. The tiny lobby is worn and tired, the staff discourteous and looking annoyed (especially the woman in charge of serving the poorest breakfast), The carpets were filthy with stains everywhere,
Thank God we had paid a reasonable price through a greek travel agent who happens to be good friend of mine.
We will never stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone.

It was the worst hotel, that I have ever stay in my life!! The room was extremely small, the carpets were dirty and the stuff was firstly very rude and secondly not well informed. The first day that we wake up, we found on the bed a cockroach!!!!!!!!! Can you believe it? After a big fight with the manager they changed us room but it was the same in other flour. The breakfast was terrible and the ham was spoiled. It was the worst experience in my life. The tourist police should close them
