We had one night at Wood Hall last Sunday evening. We were attending a trade fair in Harrogate and this came out reasonable value compared to some of the dated Harrogate hotels. We stayed on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. On arriving, yes there was a wedding there, which we did expect after reading other reviews. With the hotel being fairly small obviously the wedding was the main event but in no way did we feel second class guests. Our room was well away from the wedding party and we did not get disturbed, the room was clean and quite large with some very nice luxuries. Dinner was fabulous! On the dinner, bed and breakfast basis we were allocated ?35 per person for dinner and that was the price of the 3 course menu, so we only paid for wine,. It was actually a five course meal with the complimentary appetizers and soup course, fillet steak was also included and the service was excellent, they also reserved the lounge for non wedding guests so you were able to relax. The only thing was, they were very short staffed, but this was not the staff that were working's fault and they did their very best. It showed most at breakfast which was lovely but took a long time to arrive.
Overall it was a good 4* hotel, which is what it is advertised as, more staff are needed but if you go with a relaxed attitude to any weddings that are on you will enjoy it. If you are thinking of having your wedding there it looks fabulous!

This is a beautiful hotel set in stunning grounds and our first impressions were very good, however on scratching the surface it seems that more work is required. We stayed in a standard room which was beautifully decorated but the large mirror behind the TV was covered in a thick layer of dust. We ordered sandwiches from room service and they arrived 45 minutes later and didn't resemble anything from the menu. Our drinks arrived unchilled and with no ice in them. The breakfast was very average with undercooked bacon, we had to ask for salt and the staff seemed very harrassed. These things may sound petty but this hotel isn't cheap and is spoiled by the lack of attention to detail. If these prolems were rectified it could be a truly great stay!

My partner and I stayed at this hotel some time ago and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the hotel very well maintained. Room service was absolutely divine and the rooms were very equipped-DVD players (and DVDs for hire in reception as well as board games and magazines to take up to your room to borrow), lovely bathrooms, complimentary toiletries etc. Nice spa and swimming pool plus gym and its only a short drive from leeds and york
My only grumble would be the standard of some of the staff - we stayed in the week and luckily it wasn't too busy but you got the impression that weddings were big business (as there was one the day after and their attention seemed distracted somewhat). But overall a fantastic hotel and would definitely go again. Try booking through lastminute.com or hotels.com as it can sometimes be cheap (at certain times of the year or if you get a good deal or on thursday nights/sunday nights).

My wife and I got married at Wood Hall at the beginning of March 2008, so this review is based on the food/service supplied to wedding parties. So if you are getting married here, you may want to read this, it’ll show you you’ve made the right decision.
LOBBY/CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT:
My wife stayed at Wood Hall the night before our wedding, so I arrived with my best man around lunchtime. Our rooms weren’t ready when we arrived so we left our bags at reception, but within about 5 minutes they’d got one of the rooms ready, and moved my wife’s belongings over to the Willow suite, where we were staying the night of the wedding. The service at the front desk was quick and efficient, as you’d expect from a hotel like this.
FOOD AND DRINK:
The food for our wedding breakfast was truly first class. The portions were very large, very well cooked and all our guests commented on how good the food was. The selection of wines was also very good, and the canap?s after the ceremony were excellent, although I didn’t get enough of them, having to be in all the photos!!
POOL/SPA:
My wife and I didn’t get chance to use the spa, but some of our guests did and they loved it. I have used the spa on a separate occasion, and although it isn’t too big, it never seems too busy, and the massages are excellent.
ROOMS:
Our room, Willow suite, was amazing. The room was huge, with the biggest, comfiest bed in the world!!!! The bathroom was also huge, and everything was really well finished. My wife stayed in the Walnut suite the night before our wedding, which has a separate lounge area and was equally luxurious. Other rooms in the hotel, although not as big and luxurious, are still to a very high standard. I’ve never seen another hotel with rooms as superb as Wood Hall.
SERVICE:
The staff for our wedding were really, really wonderful. They made the day go effortlessly. They blended into the background enough that they didn’t interfere, but as soon as they were needed they would respond. Thanks to all of them.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE:
We are very pleased that we chose Wood Hall for our wedding. Obviously, the views are incredible, and the hotel very luxurious. But it’s the staff who made it for us. They were really excellent. Wood hall is expensive, and it’s not cheap to have a wedding here, but it’s not really cheap to have a wedding anywhere these days, and this was well worth the money. Feel free to send me a message and ask further questions.
