A great location for a basic hotel.
The 4 stars really don't mean a lot but the area is great. The rooms have been well described by others and likewise the staff. Our man booked us a table at a fantastic bistro ( La Regalade- as recommended by Time Out) where , for 33 euro, prixe fixe we had a meal fit for Kings and Queens. On our way we stopped off at Charley Birdys, a jazz cafe , where we caught the happy hour (M-F 5-8) and enjoyed the buzz. All around the area are great bistros (including the famous La Coupole, where we had brunch on Sunday) and it was a very safe environment .Jardins de Luxembourg are wonderful and we had caught the Catacombs and cimetiere on a previous visit. Around Mountparnasse is a safe mixture of arts n sleaze and we walked to and from the Champs. Attended a fantastic version of Mozart's requiem in the Eglise de Madeline on Saturday night , with a 60 voice choir ,12 piece orchestra and 4 superb soloists - the soprano also sang Ave Maria ( 2 versions) better than anything I've heard-many were in tears.A good base to explore a wonderful city.

... but it was just okay. I got a pretty good price on Hotwire, especially with the declining dollar so I'm glad I prebooked. The room was small, but nice. The view was great, but noisy during the night with traffic and then early morning trash pick-up, street cleaning, etc. As other reviewers have said, the bed was very uncomfortable, but that didn't bother me too much. It was great it had a little kitchen, but it had absolutely nothing in it, not even a coffee maker. We asked for a fork and knife, they said sure, but never brought it. Asked for a wake up call that we never got. Had to ask for a hairdryer. I thought the staff were friendly enough, but non-responsive. Steps to the Metro, cafes, convenience store. Short walk to the RER, which is very convenient not to have to change to the metro. I love walking so walked everywhere and hardly used the metro. I would recommend this hotel if you can get a good rate. I do wonder whether the staff would have been more responsive, and whether we would get an equipped kitchen (which I saw that other rooms were) if we had not booked through a discount hotel website.

I stayed at this hotel for a long weekend. We were lucky and had a balcony on the top floor which was fantastic. The view from the room was excellent, and the room was spacious. It had all the basic amenities, mini bar, fridge etc which was handy. Staff were very helpful, and the reception area spotless but small. The hotel is in a residential area, a good 20 mins walk or so to the main tourist amenities, altho the walk is lovely with lots to see along the way. It's a fairly quiet area, however lots of bars and restaurants in the area. perfect for a quiet getaway yet near enought to walk to the main attractions.

We stayed at the Villa Luxembourg in Jauary 2008. The room was the usual very small Parisian type, the tiny bathroom was ok but the bed was dreadful, very soft. We had booked for 2 nights but left after one night. We felt that the location and staff were pleasant but it was let down by cheap beds. Would not recommend it.
I recommend an early morning walk in the nearby Luxembourg Gardens- magic!

Could be nice - Maybe I was Unlucky

Stayed for a couple of nights at the Villa Luxembourg on a short holiday break in November 2007.
Good things:
- Location is excellent. 200m to metro (Vavin) and 500m to RER (Port Royal). Loads of excellent little restaurants nearby and very safe area. Good access to all Paris tourist destinations.
- Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Bad things:
- Room was very tired and needed a serious refurb.
- Bed was probably the most uncomfortable I have ever stayed in – who puts a rough plastic sheet on a mattress these days? It makes for an awful nights sleep along with the cheapest most uncomfortable pillow possible.
- Old air conditioning system vents air through the whole building… However this a) got freezing at night and the temperature setting would not work – very uncomfortable and even if switched off, air keeps coming through (cold at night) and b) stench of cigarette smoke coming through the air-con was disgusting.
- Wiring must have been done by Homer Simpson. On entering the room, you put your keycard into a slot to get the lights and power working. This fell off the wall and stayed dangling for the rest of our stay. 3 of the 4 power sockets in the room either didn’t work or were hanging out of the wall with live wires showing. Very dangerous.
- Very limited TV channels.
- Nice kitchen area (microwave, hot plates, sink and fridge) however not even a cup or a pan to make some tea so was useless.
In my opinion, I have no idea how this place could be classed as a 4*. Maybe 3* at a push – with all the 70’s d?cor you can handle. If they spent a bit of money on it, it could be great but I wouldn’t go back unless there was a complete refurb carried out. The staff were very polite however.
Hope this helps…
