Good Stay at Regencia
Guest name: Texas7, Houston
Stayed two nights at Regencia after a cruise. Expected the noise to be awful after reading previous reviews; however, the noise was not nearly as bad. I had brought earplugs - just in case. Apparently we arrived at the beginning of a holiday weekend (St. John's) and was told by locals that the noise in Barcelona that weekend would be outrageous and go all night long but we had no problems with noise thankfully. Also, dined at Estruch and had no problems as a previous poster did -- maybe we were lucky or he/she was just unlucky. Ate at Catedral restaurant at Hotel Colon and enjoyed a really good meal facing the plaza. Hotel Regencia Colon was small, nicely run and maintained, staff was pleasant and helpful. Very clean. Nothing fancy but in a good location, nice and clean accommodations and made for an enjoyable stay for a few days.

We loved the location of the Regencia Colon, near the Cathedral and Las Ramblas. The front desk staff was helpful, especially in helping us to avoid getting caught in a city-wide taxi strike by pre-booking our cab. Our room was spacious and bathroom lovely! this hotel is the twin to the more deluxe Colon (right next door), but without some of the extras. We did miss having internet access and a breakfast included, but there are so many possibilities for eating the the neighborhood that it was not too much of an inconvenience. This hotel is a great value in a spectacular city, and you are right in the middle of it all!

I reserved two rooms several months in advance and confirmed them via email one week before arrival. Nonetheless, we were apologetically told by the staff that they had overbooked and had no rooms available and were transferring us to its sister hotel Colon. Unfortunately, the Colon Hotel rooms turned out to be run down, with stained upholstery, linens, and carpeting, no air conditioning, and an old, lumpy bed. We found a new hotel. I never saw the rooms at the Regencia, so I can't comment on them (the lobby was simple but clean), but the experience was disappointing and stressful as we scrambled to find an acceptable hotel.

My wife and I looked for a moderately priced hotel in the heart of Barcelona, and Regencia Colon did not disappoint. Location can't be beat! Room was fresh and clean, larger than what one usually finds in the old parts of other European cities. Bathroom was modern & clean. Staff was accomodating and friendly. Naturally, being in the middle of the touristy barri gotic, there was some noise from the street - but nothing out of the ordinary (and since we're on the topic, I always carry a pair of earplugs which on many occasions saved the day - or should I say the night).
All in all, I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.
