We stayed from the 28th June - 5th July 2008. The staff were so friendly and helpful from the minute we checked in. Even the porters "gooed and gaahed" over our 1 year old son and it was great to not be made to feel like lepars because we were travelling with kids. Everytime we saw a staf member, in the lift or in the lobby, we were greated by sincere smiles and excellent service.
The room was great and very well maintained. Plenty of space and the bathroom wasn't a closet! Aircon was excellent (not too noisy) as it was an OVEN outside sometimes.
It was our first time in DC and it made the trip so nice to have such a great place to stay. The free access to the YMCA pool next door more than made up for the fact the hotel didn't have a pool of its own and the location couldn't have been better. It was a 10 min walk the Whitehouse and less to the local Metro and local dining spots.
Honestly, no complaints at all, especially considering the great rate we got!
You're pretty safe with these folks!

We have stayed here before last October in fact and we really like the place. The rooms are all very up to date please take a look at their website or the traveler photos here the one posted above is very old and not at all what the rooms look like. It was very clean the bathtub /shower is a really good size and deep watch stepping out of it, and the shampoos, lotions and soaps are very nice and smell so good. The beds are so comfy and a great flat screen TV .All the staff were very nice. I forgot my camera so didn't take any pics this time around I will next time we go in a couple of months.
The restaurant Beacon Bar and Grill we have eaten breakfast and dinner before and again on this trip and was very good. So much flavor and great cocktails! The Sky Bar which is only open a few days a week is a really nice rooftop bar their drinks are so good!!!
I do not know about the review that was written in May before mine but we had the same type room last year and it looked the same as the pics on their website. We will definatly be staying there again!!

HOtel was well located, very clean and recently renovated. The bed was comfortable and had a cream colored spread, such a change from the usual ghastly patterns. My only complaint is that the bathtub was quite slippery and there wasn't a bar to hang on to. We used a towel. They could at least have a rubber bath mat if they don't want to install the metal bar that all hotels seem to have.
The staff was very polite and helpful. Free ice machines are a plus.
I'd avoid the Beacon Bar and Grill on premises. Overpriced bad food and watery drinks at Happy Hour plus extremely loud music are a turnoff.

I stayed here when in DC for work, so at least I didn't pay for this place. The front desk staff was perfectly friendly, but I only interacted with them to check in and out. Unless you are able to get a room very very cheaply, this hotel is a dud. If the rooms have been renovated, it is only cosmetic and done very poorly and cheaply. The rooms are set up strangely, the closet was a pole strung up in the bathroom, the toilet and shower were crammed into a tiny closet, which smelled like smoke -- most likely left over from the earlier days of the hotel because they hadn't replaced the ceiling tiles in about 40-50 years. The plumbing was atrocious and the toilet never cleared without at least three flushes and you could hear it leaking. The heating/air conditioning was so loud and the thermostat didn't work properly. They mixed new furniture with stuff that was very old and worn. There were absolutely no "amenities" -- the soap and shampoo were gross, the in-room coffee pot was hidden away somewhere and when I found it was even more terrible than usual. One of the water glasses was cracked. The room itself was clean enough, but the hallways were dingy and dark. If you don't care whether things are nicely done and you get a rate of less than $100, and you can't find another hotel, you could probably live with it. But it isn't a hotel to enjoy, be comfortable in, or want to return to.

We were only there for 4 days and tried to do as much as we can in Washington so in terms of location Beacon Hotel was ideal because it was a nice walk from the main attractions. Also handy if you're taking the sightseeing bus as there is a stop just 2 doors down by St,Michaels Church.
The room itself was nice. Hotels.com had a special so it was a free upgrade to King size room. The walls are thin so next door neighbour had a crying child and the room next door had occupants that couldn't get to bed till past 2am and had blaring tv so it was a bit tough to sleep but the room, bathroom and everything was nice.
