Centara Duangtawan is big and "impersonal" . It is in the centre of Chiang Mai and very well located for the night markets and taxis. It seems rather poorly planned: the public areas at ground and first floor have lots of wasted space and unnecessary up-and-down steps. These pose safety issues for the disabled and toddlers (as we had). The rooms are adequate but those facing South are subject to the intense heat of the sun. Try for a North-facing room. The main problem is that there are only two lifts serving 20 storeys of accommodation so there is an incredibly long wait at breakfast time to and from the dining hall. The pool and gym are at fourth floor level: the pool is good but expect another long wait for the lift. We stayed there over Christmas and New Year when the hotel was full. Buffet breakfast was a grab-fest. Too much time was spent waiting for the lifts. The New Year's Eve Gala Dinner on the car park roof was a highlight: a lot of fun and good food, lousy karaoke and the usual troup of lady-boys.

Our experience here was such that rather than spend out first evening at the nearby Night Market, we instead spent our time looking for a new hotel.
We had booked two adjacent rooms for four people and both rooms had dirty carpets, broken lighting, broken bathroom fixtures and mold. Yuck.
Fortunately our next hotel was lovely and overall we had a wonderful time in Chiang Mai

I made an online booking directly with the hotel and for the price of under THB1500 inclusive of tax and breakfast, I would say it was a fair deal considering the fact that it was near to the Night Bazaar and other attractions. It was my first time to Chiangmai and I had read reviews on the four elevators serving the whole hotel and although one was out, the other 3 worked perfectly well. Perhaps it was off season and not many guests were using it. Service was good, right from the reception to the concierge. Although I arrived early, they let me checked in and it was all done rather quickly. I had 2 bedrooms and they were just fine! The rooms had a view of the city and it was a fairly large room with a separate shower and a bath tub. Clean, bright and roomy, I would put it. And, although the room itself was a bit old and the carpets had seen better days, it was not as bad as other reviews made it out to be. The gym, pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi was great as with the lounge. The buffet breakfast was sufficient although they should have changed their menu a little bit more. Having to eat more or less the same thing for 5 days can be a bit unappetizing. I also had their airport transfer and the driver, Bee, was there when I walked out from the arrival hall. They charged THB100 per person per transfer and now that I know the airport was so near to the city and convenient, I would not be using this service in future as it cost only a little bit more for a taxi plus it can accommodate 4 pax. The only snag for this hotel would be the reception at the Mezzanine Floor and not on the Lobby Floor. Overall, I would stay there again. Can't be faulted for the price I paid.

I stay here right now and think its a good hotel when you compare what you pay and what you get. ( by the way, always do so ) The location is great. Right at the Night Market and close to all the night life. Pick up from the airport very fast. Bell-boys friendly but "money hungry". Dynasty room at floor 22. For a few $ more than average, you get a free breakfast, drinks and snacks all day. Not the best choice I have ever seen but, ok. Reception desk very polite and friendly. I had a problem with my airco and they changed my room without any complaint. Room a bit dated but very clean and everything is there. We got used to all new and fancy hotels, but I guess 10 years ago this used to be one of the best in town. Check the hotel site before you book with any other. They have good special offers. I stay here for 2065 Bath per night and the 4th night for free. This is 1550 Bath per night incl. Dynasty floor with lounge access, and laundry. The price is not bad for what you get. By the way, the elevators are at this moment no problem at all but I can imagine when all 500 rooms are sold, it might be a bit busy with just 4 elevators.

this hotel was a little below average. The rooms are old as I believe they are currently undergoing renovations. The staff is very friendly and professional. The rooms were clean but very old - in definite need of an update. The pool is small. The big bonus for this hotel is its centrally located - right next to the night bazaar.
