The centre of England!

We have just returned from a one night stay at the Manor Hotel and had a pleasant experience overall.
The hotel is situated just outside of Coventry in a lovely, quiet village called Meriden which is literally the centre of England. Easy and quick to find off the M42 and ideal for the NEC, airports or the Motorcycle Museum.
First impressions were good, the hotel's attractive gardens are well maintained and the reception area nicely decoratated with extensive (and expensive) oak panelling.
They also have a bar called Houstons which appears to have been recently refurbished and was immaculate but for some reason was more or less deserted for the entire duration of our stay. Rather surprising as it had a nice feel to it.
We were hit by a thick fog of acrid smoke (despite it being a non smoking room) when entering the first bedroom we were given., so made an immediate call to reception. They resolved this very quickly and we were moved to another room down the corridor of the new wing.
Room size was good and again well furnished and decororated - in a sort of traditional middle England kind of way. There weren't any duvets on the beds, just several layers of sheets, covers and blankets which were freshly laundered and very comforting, but did make you rather hot. I did make the mistake of checking the mattress and would have to agree with the previous reviewer that they are most undeniably brown and not attractive to look at, but in all fairness they didn't smell at all and were very comfortable so I tried to put it to the back of the mind, reminding myself that there were several layers of sheets between it and my skin!
Bathroom was clean and adequate, again not cutting edge, but served the purpose and the towels smelt lovely - they obviously use a good laundry! Shower not a power one but still had decent enough pressure.
There was a wedding taking place whilst we were there - but you really wouldn't have known - it was well contained away from the bar area and we weren't distubed by any noise at all - infact we were taken aback by how many guests there were when they all appeared for breakfast the next morning as we didn't see any sight of them during the evening - the hotel and restaurant was more or less deserted.
There appears to be a high staff ratio at the hotel and they were polite and efficient, several of them being ladies in their (ahem!) more mature years, who always had a smile on their face and understand the concept of customer service!
Very good breakfast - plenty of tasty fresh fruit ,cereals and pastries and good choice of fruit juices. Can't comment on the cooked element as didn't try it.
No problems with checking in or out either.
Whilst not having any kind of wow factor, this is a solid, comfortable hotel presenting good value for money. Would use again.

Stayed here for one night for business in November 2007.
Parking is more than adequate outside the front of the hotel. Hotel is located in a residential road and there did not appear to be any problems.
Got checked in with minimal amount of fuss and went to my room. Room was very clean and tidy and the bathroom was spotless. Bed was comfortable.
Breakfast consisted of a wide range of hot/cold and meat/vegetarian foods.
I apologise that this review is so short but I was in the hotel for literally 11 hours and am therefore unable to comment on anything other than my room and the breakfast.
I stayed here with two other colleagues and they had no problems either.
Point to note, there is no WiFi available in the rooms, it is only available in reception. There is an ethernet cable link in every room but mine was not working and neither was that of my colleagues.

Easy to find, and looks impressive. Plenty of parking. Reception staff very helpfull. Room quiet, as requested. Clean. Fantastic power shower. Towels had holes in them, bed was past it's best. Resteraunt was fantastic, service superb. Don't bother with the bar or bar food. Took an hour to sort 4 sandwiches and they were not busy. Breakfast had plenty of choice, but the cooked portions were like rubber. We were there on a Friday night, they obviously rely heavily on functions and weddings, so be warned, weekends might not be a good time.

Room was very nice, looked freshly decorated and was very clean. Air-con was a bonus!
Unfortunately our room overlooked a courtyard, the opposite side of which was the restaurant which was being used to host a wedding. The noise from the disco was unbearable so we asked to be moved to another room.
Room we were moved to had an adjoining door to another room which the staff were unable to lock. So we moved to a third room.
At 12.15am the phone in our room rang and woke us. I called reception who checked there were no alarm calls booked for the room. At 1.30 the phone rang and woke us again.
The staff were very good and arranged for us to move to their sister hotel (Windmill Village), although our experience there was equally bad!
Hotel manager was excellent as we check out the next morning and they did not charge us for the stay, however I would advise people to check if a wedding is planned during your stay and if so, request a room well away from the restaurant and courtyard.

Fantastic, top quality hotel - could not fault it!

We recently had our wedding reception at the Manor Hotel in Meriden and we could not fault the hotel in any way, shape or form. The staff are fantastic and could not do enough for us throughout the whole day. The food was fantastic and gourmet standard. We had been for a meal there previously and found it to be really good quality, but when you have 80+ meals to serve all at one time, some hotels let themselves down, but we could not fault anything about it - it all arrived at the same time and was piping hot and delicious! Everyone at our reception commented on how fabulous the food was.
We were given a complementary 4-poster room to stay in on the night of our wedding and we could not fault it. Everything was spotlessly clean and the bathroom was a good size.
Overall, definitely a fantastic hotel that I would recommend to anyone, whether going for a meal in their restaurant or staying the weekend!
