Allthough the rooms are on the small side, I dont really get all the bad reviews. The staff was friendly and helpful, the cleaning impeccable and the location - well it must be among the best in Rome. A fun walk to the Spanish steps, 300 yards from the Santa Maria Maggiore Cathedral and about the same from Termini. Lots of cool little trattorias and cafes nearby. The breakfast is everything you can expect in Italy - theres nobody there fo fry up your omelette or crisp your bacon, but nice bread, cereals, milk and jams - and plenty of places for American breakfasts nearby for those who need a 500 calory start

Chose the Champagne Palace based on the location and the fact that it looked a reasonable 4 star hotel.
The location is good, although on arrival at Termini it was hailing, thundering and lightening so we got a taxi - 20 euros later we realised how close we were and that we had been robbed!
Initial thoughts of the hotel were it was small. We were advised our room was 408.
There was no air con as the unit was hanging off the wall, the bathroom lights were hanging out, no hairdryer, plug sockets hanging out the wall, the minibar shelves were broken and there was an open bottle of water and one coke in there. We also went to open the window and the handle fell off!! We advised reception then went out for a few hours. On return nothing had been done so we asked to move rooms. Reception advised they needed to check with the manager?? Eventually we were shown a nice room on the ground floor which is actually one that is used as the picture for rooms - still not 4* standard but at least this wasnt a health hazard. The hotel itself was poor. We only went for one night and thought that a 4 * would give us a bit of luxury - Would not recommend this at all.

Read other reviews of this hotel and was a bit apprehensive about staying but as it was already booked didn't have much choice.
Was pleasantly surprised when I arrived and all I can say to the negative reviews is GET A LIFE and get out more.
Yes the rooms and bathrooms are on the small size but how much time do you spend in your room when you're visiting Rome.
The train station is literally 2 minutes walk away so access to the rest of the city is easy.
There are plenty of reasonably priced restaurants within 5 minutes walking distance and we never experienced any problems being out in the evenings.
All in all not what I'd class as 4 star but also ok for what you pay.
If you're expecting the Savoy don't go here otherwise give it a go and enjoy Rome.

I booked this hotel through lastminute.com for 4 nights, 4 people. We arrived at around 9pm (Easy Jet flight, transfer though Easy Jet too - was exellent and cheap). We were dropped off at the Termini station and found our way to the Champagne Palace hotel. To our dismay we were told on arrival that the hotel had over booked and we were to go to their sister hotel the Champagne Gardens. I was rather annoyed when the reception guy started pointing at a map, my husband kicked off which resulted in a call to the hotel manager who came and collected us in the worlds smallest car.
We arrived at the hotel which had no bar or restaurant. We were shown to our room which was OK, we had a shower, some rooms had a bath. It was basic but ok. We found a supermarket the following day which is about a 30 second walk from this hotel which was great. Plenty of restaurants within a minute or two of the hotel. Station is about 5 minutes quick walk from the hotel certainly no need for a taxi. You can get the metro all over the city from this location or jump on a bus at the bus station out the back of the train station for 1euro. Rooms had a safe free of charge. There was a lift in the hotel.
2 of our group booked a day trip to Pompeii and the hotel staff arranged it all for them with no problem.
Breakfast was pretty crap, usual continental stuff, cold meat and cakes with cereal, tea and coffee. There was no coffee making facilities in the room. Staff were not overly helpful, or particularly friendly, but fairly efficient. We had to vacate room at 12 but payed about £30 to have it for the rest of the day which was great as we had a comfortable last day as flights were at night.
Overall, the location was good as it is no problem getting into the City centre and main attractions. We had no problem with security although we'd heard that it busier months pickpockets are rife.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel to someone who doesn't care as long as its clean and straight forward. I have mixed feelings about the hotel as I enjoyed Rome so much it certainly over shadowed my concerns about the hotel. If I went back I would probably look for somewhere with more facilities.
not worth even 1 star

hello,
I have to say that the hotel is well placed. the only advantage as all the rest is a catastrophy.
first surprise, it is wrtitten in big letters in the room that the guest must leave at 10 am. yes, yes....check out at 10 AM. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS IN MY ENTIRE LIFE.
The tv is from the seventies and most channels are not well adjusted
the shower has got leakage.
you have one towel, one soap...etc so do not think about taking 2 or 3 showers albeit outside temperature is 35 degree celsuis during the day so you just sweating all day and you have to take another with the same humid towel.
the breakfast is so good that you would like to puke.
there is no insulation so you get to hear all what your neighboors are doing, if you want to sleep it is a nightmare.
etc
etc
etc
etc
I paid 140 euro and really it is a big hustle.
