Stayed here as part of a business trip. Got upgraded and the bed was the best we have ever slept in, didn't want to get out of it in the morning!. Friendly and efficient staff on reception. Breakfast was average. Would stay here again

I am just back from a few days businness in Edinburgh. My first impressions were positive, the welcome that I recieved and the overall friendlynessof the staff. My room was clean, tidy and suited me perfecly, it had a wonderful view and at the end of a busy day was calming to return to. At all times during my stay the staff were helpful and looked after my every need. On my last night I had a wondeful meal in their restaurant and the wild smoked salmon was the best that I have ever tasted. It melted in the mounth !!! Special complements to the Chef. I just hope that I can return soon and maybe next time take some time to explore the city.

Pros: Good gym, clean, modern, large rooms and nice bathrooms, Cons: Poor room service menu, quilts so thick you can't breathe, poor breakfast choice (not much fresh fruit, cereal choice, nuts & seeds, etc), over friendly/inexperienced staff For a similair price and a proper 4 star, I would recommned staying at the McDonald Holyrood.

All round this hotel is pretty safe bet if you want to get away to Edinburgh for a few days. It is around 10/15 minutes walk from Princess Street, Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile so ideally situated for the main attractions. Inside it is clean and simple and clearly geared up for business clientel, however, the staff were friendly and helpful and the room was a good size with a nice view. The pool is nice and there is a steam room, sauna and gym which were empty all weekend. There is also a cool shower with disco lights and fragranced water in the pool area. On the phone the hotel told us that the hotel was near to the airport shuttle bus stop, however, it is more like a 10 minutes walk but not to bad. The food in the restaurant is very nice and we would recommend it. If you stay here there is also a really good comedy club called The Stand (located on York Place) about a 5 minute walk away, they have live acts every night. All round a good value hotel to stay in whilst visiting Edinburgh

We stayed here for only one night for a short visit to Edinburgh, having previously stayed at the Thistle and George the Royal terrace was slightly further out than i normally like although the surrounding area and gardens are both very nice. Service wasnt the best and although the hotel LOOKS fantastic they could have spent a little more on the revamp to improve things further. Our room was small but ok for the one night. Shower was hard to navigate although again it looked the part. Service was also slow in the bar and we witnessed food being sent back twice in an hour. Breakfast was buffet style and again was ok. I suspect the hotel only gained the 4th star because of the pool etc as to me i would rate this hotel more of a three star. We paid a bargain ?90 for a double and it was worth it but not sure i would book again.
