Nice hotel

Very nice hotel in a good location. My room was on the 4th floor with a view of the river- well a snow covered river !! Facilities very good and wireless internet access in the room was excellent. Good service with a smile and check in desk very helpful. Excellent meal in the restuarant at a cheaper price than in the town.
Umea town centre has a few bars, restuarants and shops but not much more. Hotel is only 5/10 mins from the airport and is a good choice for your stay.

The plaza is a great hotel which is centrally located.
The check in was extremely quick and I got a room on the fifth floor. Room had twin beds and was very clean (as most Scandic's are).
Free wireless internet which is a godsend as a business user. The coverage in the room was poor so I found it was easier and less frustrating to use the laptop in the lobby area.
The breakfast was a smorgesbord of cheese, drinks and cooked meats. During the week it finishes at 9:30am!!! Pretty early for those lucky enough for a lie in.

I traveled to Umea on business, and had the pleasure of staying at the Scandic Plaza for one week. The staff at the front desk were extremely friendly, and checked us in quickly. There are three elevators that lead you to the guest rooms, and if you are higher than the 3rd floor, you get a great view of the city centre through the glass doors!
I stayed in a smoking room on an upper floor. The room had a great view of both the water and the city centre. The room was a typical European room, with wood floors, two single beds pushed together, and semi-modern furnishings.
I found the shower to be small, but the bathroom overall was a nice size with good counter space. Scandic does not do individual soaps, so there was a bottle of Dove soap at the sink, and a bottle of Lux shampoo/body soap in the shower. The towels were thin, but there were plenty.
The room was outfitted with a closet and trouser press, as well as a desk and two lounge chairs. I enjoyed the free high speed internet in my room, and the alarm clock built into the television.
The free breakfast was fantastic. A nice spread was out each morning in the restaurant and included breads, meats, cheeses, fruits/vegetables, hot items such as eggs and bacon, cereal and yogurt.
I did not eat in the restaurant during my visit, so I cannot comment on the lunch/dinner offered.
The location of the hotel is directly across from the city center. There, you will find a grocery store that is open until 19:00 every day, and several restaurants and pubs. There is also quite a lot of shopping, but stores close at 18:00 with one or two stores open until 19:00.
Taxis were readily available, and everyone I came across in Umea spoke English, AND helped me learn some Swedish.
When I come back to Umea, I will definitely stay in this hotel, as opposed to the Scandic Syd.
