Just returned from a week in June - what a fantastic place to relax. Like some of the other reviewers have said I think 1 week is enough unless you are going to spread your wings a bit and visit other resorts on the island.
This was our 2nd time, we visited 3 years ago so pretty much knew what to expect...and it didn't disappoint. Hotel is Grand rather than large although you never feel part of a large crowd as there is so much space. Everywhere is very clean and well maintained - rooms, pool area & grounds etc.
We opted for a standard room this time (last time we had a sea view) – due to the standard of the rooms there is very little need to upgrade. We booked through ‘lastminute’ as they had the best rate at the time, although previously we used ‘expedia’ so it pays to shop around (don’t discount the hotel direct either as they were only marginally more expensive than lastminute!!!)
Let’s get one thing straight from the start – I would not go out on a limb and recommend this hotel/resort to families with small children and teenagers as there is very little for them to do – I see this as either a couples’ getaway or for anyone wanting to truly relax.
Food was great, particularly the breakfast where you are confronted with a huge selection of very good quality options, from the healthy to the extravagant (Cava for breakfast – thumbs up from us!!).
We ate in the main restaurant once (Botavara) and also the A’la Carte option at ‘La Caleta’ (only open Thurs – Sunday) and both were very good. Saying that, we did take the stroll down to the marina most nights where there is a small but growing number of bars and eateries – we have tried most and would say that the only ‘bad apple’ in my option was the Chinese option (it was mediocre at best and not a patch on let's say the ‘Yan Sing in Manchester’).
If you are after a Spa holiday then this is the place for you – my wife has been to various Spas’ in the UK and she said that this was the best by a mile – staff’s attention to detail, time taken and quality of surrounding s etc
Overall a great hotel, very classy and very relaxing.

We have just returned from a week at Hesperia Lanzarote, the hotel is just as good as other reports say, 5 star standard, room was lovely and clean with everything you would need. All the hotel rooms are easily accessible via stairs or lifts, the swimming pools and surrounding views of the hotel are just fantastic, we were unsure as to visit this island/hotel, pleased we choose the hotel definitely best and only choice for this area, but probably wouldn't go back to Lanzarote.
The breakfast at the hotel was just amazing so much choice with excellent fresh baked quality. The only small downside was that the drinks and bottles of water at the pool bar were quite pricey.
Other that this great choice of hotel and would recommend it, but don't travel with Thomas Cook, we had terrible flight delays and they didn't seem bothered about the customer!

Stayed October 2007, a really nice place with a good mix of nationalities. We stayed on a half board basis, the food was pretty good, all buffet service but excellent choices every evening. Food quality was equal to the hotel rating, staff were friendly if sometimes over-worked. Pool area was immacualte, the spa, reception first rate.
Hardly anything to grip about other than the bathroom is a little small in the standard rooms and the gym equipment was a little hit and miss.
But you do need to get out to another resort if you want a beach.
Puerto Calero is trying to promote an up-market resort but is struggling a little with businesses finiding it hard to survive. A couple of good bars and restuarants, but really, the food at the Hesperia is too good to miss.
I would definitely stay there again, however BA have stopped flying there and there is no-way I will pay 300 quid per person to fly Chav Air.
Relaxed and well appointed. Good for a week, two would be too much,

We booked the Hesperia through Classic Collection at Co-operative travel. The flights were by Thompson, and they were okay for what is essentially an airborne bus service. The in-flight meals were "inspired by Aldo Zilli" which was positive, because they were very good for airline food.
The deal with Classic collections includes private transfers in the form of a local taxi. Ours was a newish Mercedes, as many of them are, so that was pleasant enough.
On arrival at the hotel we were asked if we would like to see the room, and we were given a glass of very nice Cava whilst we waited for the maid. This was both very hospitable and a very good marketing ploy, because just as the euphoria of the delicious cava began to kick in we were shown a stunning suite to which we could upgrade to for a mere 40 euros per night. Our allocated room was excellent but the suite was in a different league, so how could we refuse?
So, duly installed in our suite which was spacious, luxurious and with a spa bath, we set about enjoying our week in Puerto Calero. Fortunately, the weather was excellent for the whole week - had it not been, there was always the option of spending more time in the spa or gym (a pass for the week was 55 euro).
The spa area is very good, there are beauty treatments available of a similar standard to those at a decent UK health farm, whilst being probably a tad more expensive. The gym is well equipped with a range of cardio machines, resistance machines and free weights.
Breakfast at the hotel was vast. The breakfast bars probably spread over about thirty feet and the options were almost unlimited. On the first day I was surprised to find that the hot breakfast was only warm. Day two it was hot, and the temperature seemed to depend on how full the hotel was. More guests, hotter food.
We didn't have dinner at the hotel at all, but lunch daily. At about 20 euro for two salads, with bread and water it was not cheap but quite pleasant. Choice limited though.
Staff at the hotel were without exception superb. Attentive and friendly. They also looked after the hotel well, which was immaculate in every respect.
This is not a hotel for those who like a warm pool. Heated by the sun, the water remains bracing at all times.
The walk down to the marina is pleasant enough, though the shops and restaurants there are perhaps disappointing. Only about half the retail units are occupied, albeit with some classy boutiques. The restaurants are satisfactory but nothing stunning. I think we'd expected some better quality fare and a better choice. Beware the tapas restaurant, the each plate is huge and not especially high quality.
Most evenings we went to Puerto Del Carmen old town, which is lively and the restaurant options better. There's plenty of good seafood available and the old town is fairly well isolated from the more "lively" beach end.
The Ironman triathlon was on whilst we were there (it's annual). So the area was full of unfeasibly fit looking people making ready for a two mile swim, 120 mile bike ride and full marathon. The very thought of it all drove me to the gin and tonic. Like many foreign parts the spirit measures are huge. We estimated that some of the amarettos we ordered were about four times the size of UK measures. With the price about the same as the UK, the drinks were one of the few things cheaper than the UK. Everything else is much the same now due to the weak pound.
So, for a week the hotel offers everything one could want. Outside of the hotel there seems to be little in the way of culture in which to immerse oneself. It is for this reason that I say a week is ideal. Longer and personally I'd get bored. Another reason is the cost. A week for two including spa passes, some treatments, the room upgrade, taxi fares and eating out cost about ?3k. I am not sure that ?6k for two weeks would have seemed like good value.
In summary, then, for a week in the sun off-season, short haul, at a very good hotel and if you want to splash out on a bit of pampering, the Hesperia Lanzarote should be on your list of considerations.

We've just spent a week at this hotel. We got a decent price through Laterooms. The hotel is a few minutes walk along a quiet path from Puerto Calero. It's situated on the coast, but the shoreline is rocky. There's a very tiny manufactured beach with space for a few sunbeds. If you want a real beach, Puerto del Carmen is the closest. There are three pools with ample space for chilling out without feeling crowded, lots of umbrellas and free pool towels. It was very windy when we were there - a few more sheltered areas would have been nice. We were hunting for places out of the wind without much success. The facilities are good: the gym was fine and the spa too. Lots of treatments available. Prices were 21/26 euros for half day or 55 euros for a weekly pass. There is a huge atrium which was permanently empty while we were there.
Breakfasts were excellent. There was a huge choice from fruit to interesting cooked options, special breads, and lots of different juices. We had the buffet dinner a couple of times. We felt that this was average in quality, but again there was lots of choice. Not so good if you were vegetarian I should think as it was really meat and fish with good salads and vegetables. The rest of the time we wandered in to Puerto Calero where we had some very decent food at the Taberna del Puerto.
We had a sea-facing room. Again, it was good. TV a bit old but good choice of satellite channels (no DVD). Comfy beds. Free wi-fi. Bathroom a bit dark and cramped but the shower was excellent, despite appearances. Housekeeping was excellent and we really appreciated the fact that our room was cleaned quite late in the day if we wanted that.
The hotel wasn't very full. We liked that, but for a more lively time it would be best to look elsewhere. There were some families with babies and young children. They seemed to be having a great time, and there were lots of high chairs in the dining room. The small swimming pool was quite popular and there was a small separate play area.
All in all it was as expected, and we'd return to the Hesperia again.
