Stayed at Montcada in July 2008 with friends. Location is fantastic and roof top bar is worth the visit. However, twin rooms were charmless and very small, beds were mildly comfortable; I do not think that they deserve ?100 ($200) asked per night per room (without breakfast) even in peak season. Avoid rooms on Via Laietana as the avenue is very noisy. Rooms on lower floors have a poor view, so ask for rooms on upper floors.
Staff was friendly but in some instance not helpful. Free internet access is offered.

The hotel was part of a package and much better than we expected. Fantastic location - easy to get to the shops, port and beach.
The rooms are "compact" but perfectly acceptable. Various web sites warn you about the room sizes, so this was no surprise to us.
- Staff were very helpful
- Free cava when checking in.
- Breakfast was very good (part of our package)
Check out the rooftop bar. Good views.
The only (minor) downside is that the hotel bar closed at midnight.

This hotel was reasonably priced, so my expectations were not too high but I am pleased to say they were far surpassed. The hotel was stylish, staff were not only courteous and friendly but extremely helpful. Our room was a twin and of good size. It was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was lovely, with a choice of fruits, continental or english breakfast, all within the price.
As we were there for a birthday, the hotel looked at the passport details and a bottle of bubbly was delivered to the room courtesy of the hotel.
The roof terrace was small but great for a spot of sunbathing or drink in the evening, and the view from up there was spectaular.
As you can expect in the city the traffic can be heard, especially in the lower rooms.
Would happily return to this hotel. Great value for money.

I spent 5 nights at the H10 Montcada in March 2008. While not perfect, it was fine and I would stay there again.
The location is central, right by the Jaume I Metro station. It’s about a ten-minute walk to Placa Catalunya, where there is a great variety of subway and train service. Ten minutes in the opposite direction and you are at the waterfront.
I had a room on the sixth floor, on the corner (room 603). It was not huge but adequate, with two twin beds and, yes, the mattresses were firm. The downside of being above a subway station is that you are above a subway station. I could hear and feel the rumble on the sixth floor, but I didn’t lose any sleep.
I was pleased that when I arrived first thing in the morning they had a room for me. Your results may vary, but at least they did not make me wait until the official check-in time. The front desk staff were fine at all times.
The shower was good with plenty of hot water and pressure. I did not try the fitness center.
My biggest semi-complaint regards the wi-fi. (I say only a semi-complaint because I was not expecting wi-fi at all, so whatever they had was a bonus.) My room was on the fringe of the sixth floor signal. Sometimes it was good, but other times I had to sit on the (uncarpeted) floor right by the door in order to pick it up.

We had a great time at the H10 Montcada Hotel despite the fact that it was a little noisy - it's located on a busy main road in Barcelona. However it was central to the main sights and attractions in the city. It's an easy place to get around - we walked about 45 miles in 4 days during which we experienced the real atmosphere of the city which we would not have done had we taken public transport everwhere. The people were lovely - very friendly and helpful. We realised though that March was "maintenance month" as some of the things we wanted to do and lots of the fountains were either being renovated or simply weren't operating. There is a vast array of places to eat and whilst everyone says that it's a real pick pocket area we didn't feel threatened at all. It's the same as any other city in the world - you just need to be mindful of what you do with your belongings. We had a fantastic city break and we would recommend it to everyone.
