We enjoyed two nights here while traveling with friends. It's a handsome 19thC structure right on the main square. We arrived on a Sunday, and there was a great antiques market happening right outside our door. The staff was efficient and very helpful, our rooms were quite comfortable, and breakfast was the most expansive and highest quality we had in Italy this trip. The public rooms are elegant. Ten minute walk from station.

We were in Lucca for visiting some friends and stop at the Universo as recommended by those friends. Staff were absolutely helpful and friendly and the Hotel is so lovely; they say it is the first Hotel builted in Lucca and inside you could find antique furnitures together with modern stuff like internet Wi-Fi.
Recommended!

I loved this hotel! There were a few quirks and misquotes but other than that my overall stay was wonderful. Make sure when you book you ask them what your view will be because it could be of a locals laundry.
Also they said they had air conditioning and they did not. I used the hotel to get ready for my wedding and it was difficult b/c it was very hot. My first room was a view of someone's laundry until my sister complained to the front desk. She explained that this was my wedding day and I would be spending my wedding night in this hotel and could we please have a room with a better view?
They immediately changed my room and the view was gorgeous, so they were very accommodating. It is also in a great location. It is not the most updated or fancy hotel in the area but it is very quaint and European.
You can have a bad stay anywhere, it is always what you make of it.

I did not choose this hotel, I was moved there by the hotel I originally booked as they had structural problems. The room was small, had flowery wallpaper everywhere including the ceiling and the TV did not work. The view from the window was of a yard and some dustbins. The kitchen extractor fan was housed just below the window.
The day after I arrived my room was still not cleaned by 5.45pm. Reception were indfferent but sent someone to clean it - no explanation offered. The maid was very nice and I could see she was doing the work of at least three people.
The breakfast room was stuffy and depressing - when I got around to trying it on the third day, it was very poor with no service at all.
After the weekend I was able to find a room at the Noblesse which was very nice - alot more expensive but worth it !
