As we drove up the drive to see the entrance of the Blackwell Grange I had to admit it was very welcoming set amongst the greenery of the golf course etc. The reception and staff where also very professional whilst helpfull and pleasant. So why only give it a rating of 2 stars? Once we had been allocated the room we made our way into the, almost bolted on 70's accomodation at the rear of the building facing overspill carpark. The room was very small, but all the amenities where there including plasma tv, coffee facilities etc. It also needed some attention as whilst clean the standard of decoration is very low with paint brush marks all over the wall paper. I am not very picky but it seemed if the rooms had been decorated in a rush and for the money you pay for this hotel you can find a hotel of a higher standard. The main problems included that the room was also like a slow cooking oven so once the temp begins to soar in the summer these rooms will be unbearable. I am a heavy sleeper and had been for a nice meal and few drinks in which would normally put me in a comatosed state. Through the night the door from the stairs made a thunder clap noise as it closed and kept us awake. Not only this, at 5 am the delivery lorry pulled up to drop of its wares to which it revved its engine for an hour, we tried to close the window but ended up having to reopen it as were being cooked at gas mark 5. All we wanted was a nice ish room to sleep in and ended being really dissapointed. Maybe the rooms in the main building are of a better standard, but on this nights stay i will not be returning to find out.

Stayed for a wedding in may 2008, the wedding itself went without a hitch and the hotel handled that efficiently...
We were in a 1970's extension that is bolted onto the back of the older property.....The corridors to the rooms could maybe do with some freshening up, the doors to the rooms are a bit 1970's....The rooms themselves appear to of been refurbished maybe in 2006 (estimating that from a date of a picture in our room) and are nice, however, the walls are thin, and in the morning we could hear next doors shower, toilet and everything.....Maybe ok if you're deaf, but have a goold knees up at a wedding, the last thing you want to hear is next doors loo flushing or the shower dipping into their bath.....
We did get a block booking rate, so that softened the blow, as you will see from my other reviews, we are used to higher grade establishments, but to this place's credit, the staff were very friendly and nice....so a bit mixed experience.........oh yes and an item on our bill was about erm......300 quid out...
All in all, for the money we paid (well under rack rate) it does offer a reasonable place to stay.........but they need to sort out sound proofing...
Very Nice

I can understand that others may have poor experiences from this hotel, but you can only write how it was for you.
First thing, it was great to go to an English hotel and be served by English people-no disrespect to foreigners.
Reception areas, Especially real fire were lovely as was the area to have a cup of tea (Served well with the biscuits on the side)
Dinner was pretty good, but not excellent (had better for less)
Bar was good for a beer and the footie.
Room was comfortable and clean.
Yes- In some places it was tired, but I assume they are working on it-it's a big building.
Next time a round of golf too!

Stayed two days in this Hotel with family due to its close location to Croft Motor Circuit. Superior state rooms turned out to be in old part The rooms in new part are nicely furnished and in a different era to the so called Superior rooms in old part which are creepy and poorly furnished. Holes in curtain and bedcover. Carpets stained and no mattress cover on bed which was covered with a sheet which didnt fit. Bathrooms have pump pot soap and lotion dispensers which are used and half empty. TV and lights within room had a mind of there own and TV eventually unplugged from wall to stop it turning on. All this was made worse when upon leaving we picked up a leaflet from reception on the History of Hotel.
Staff where helpful and food good. All delighted to have left and wont be booking again soon.
