This was not my first experience of the Britannia hotel, Aberdeen... only this time the whole set up has gone further down hill and over the edge..
Check in not to bad if you like to wait around the whole day while the staff potter about in a world of their own..
Located room on 1st floor and again very dated and need of some TV show makeover.. The first visit to the bathroom revelled the poor state and the mould evident in all areas..
Breakfast is very simple and bland but not bad if you like your grub to have that taste and look of rubber, this probably due to it being cook a good few hours prior to 0700...
Visited reception 5 times in order to reset room key due to it failing to function on returning to room on a number of occasions..
Food in the bar area again expensive and not of the quality you would expect at the prices charged.. to cap this off the chef unfortunately struggled to cook the basic of food... garlic mushroom arrived still stone cold and frozen... as suggested by another guest that if you like Chinese then get take aways like she has to for the last few days...
Anyway i think i could go on a while more with the problems of this establishment and the need for this over priced hotel to undergo some major spending in refurbishment and experienced staff...
final stay for me......

Forced to stay here several times in the past as rooms difficult to find weekdays in Aberdeen. This 1970s mausoleum has now graduated from passively mediocre to actively offensive. Treated like a criminal on latest visit as I had the temerity to produce a gold debit card to guarantee meals charged to room. Make sure you get receipts for everything or, better still, body-swerve this place if at all possible.

We checked into this hotel last minute and found it was overpriced for what you got, and was cheaper if you booked before hand. The room was ok, but no better than a travelodge or something like that which would have been cheaper and probably in a better location. It didnt seem to have much surrounding the hotel, and i think a taxi from the Aberdeen exhibition and confrence centre cost us around ?20. The only problem i had was the hotel smelt really bad when we were there, even the receptionist commented on this as i checked out. All in all the hotel was ok, but not worth the money for the quality or location.

This hotel survives because there is a lack of hotel rooms in Aberdeen and the oil workers (99% of the guests) have companies which are willing to pay the ridiculous amount of money charged. I stayed for three nights on business. I changed my room after the first night because the mattress was trying to impale me with the springs and the room had a stream of taxis pulling up outside to take oil workers to the airport/pub. Breakfast was passable but the staff, apart from the Polish girls who were pleasant and helpful, were rude. We survived the evening meal which was a rip off. Decided to try the adjoining pub for a bar meal the next night. Cold food and what eventually arrived was not what was described on the menu. After that we decamped into Aberdeen for a lovely curry for half the price. Avoid this hotel at all costs. Next time I will travel the 40 miles to the Banff Springs Hotel which is fantastic value with wonderful staff and some of the best grub I have tasted in a hotel.

As a lone female I found this hotel quite daunting. Walking from the car-park late at night I thought I should have a got a prize for finding the entrance to this drab dark hotel. Walking down endless long corridors to get to my room, in a hotel full of oilworkers, was a little unnerving. This was not really the problem though. The room was not sufficiently cleaned: the bathroom bin was not emptied and, without going into too much detail, the standard of hygiene resulted in me developing a transient case of obsessive compulsive disorder as I anxiously checked the sheets and pillowcases before retiring for the night. Strangely those on the bed were fine but the spares were in need of contact with a washing machine/bin. The brochures, menus etc in the room were tatty and coffee-stained. The room was quiet enough but otherwise soul-less and depressing. I have had better nights in ?20 a night B and B's. I felt completely ripped off paying ?129 for a bed. Even the vending machines were out of order. A bizarre other-world experience which just dumb-founded me. I will always pack my sleeping bag and tent in the car in case I ever have such an experience in a city again.
