This hotel's location is the last word in convenience being almost on top of a metro station (Chausee d'Antin La Fayette) and close to the Auber RER station. It's about two minutes walk from the Roissy bus stop that connects to Paris CDG airport - very handy when you arrive or depart laden with luggage. It's also on top of the Paris Opera House and the two famous department stores, Galleries La Fayette and Printemps.
The accommodation is pretty standard with all conveniences but no frills. My room on this occasion faced a light well, a double bed in a smallish room, but I know that other rooms are larger as I've stayed here before. Unusually for a hotel of this size the rooms have air conditioning, which although not really needed on this particular trip, is worth having in a city that can turn into a furnace in summer.
The only downside is that there is an audible rumble from the metro line below the building. But as the metro doesn't run all night, I personally didn't find it a problem
There is a bar in reception and a restaurant next door and another directly opposite. I’ve stayed here before and have always found the reception staff exceptionally helpful and friendly. The hotels biggest selling point though is undoubtedly it’s fabulous location as you really are in the centre of pretty much everything.

We stayed at the Excelsior Easter Sunday weekend. The hotel is very clean and the staff were friendly and professional. The desk clerks are friendly and speak english. The room was small for the $$ and the decor outdated but that did not distract from the charm. My only complaints are first, the location of our room faced a side alley near Rue Lafayette; below is a restaurant that makes quite a lot of noise when closing and opening their store. The second, was that the room was so hot that we had to leave the windows open all the time which resulted in our contending with flies and street noise. However, this little hotel is not without it's charm and I would recommend anyone to stay here. Tucked perfectly in the Opera district, the hotel is very near St. Lazare train station and the best shopping in the world if that is what you want to do in Paris. The RER A line and metro stops are also very close. The best movie theaters are in La Defense at the Dome and La Defense is only three stops on the A line from Auber station which can be accessed through the gourmet door at Galleries Lafayette.
Food: If you like Indian food, the Ghandi Ji across the street is exceptional. 16 Haussman is more upscale but the food and service is exceptional. For more casual and lively fare, take the metro to Les Halles station, follow Rue Monmarte to Le Tambor. It is open 24 hours a day except on Sunday. Get there early because this is not the kind of resaurant that will rush you out the door, there can be a line down the street, which there often is from Thursday - Saturday and they will never hurry you out.
Have fun in Paris.

After having my reservations mixed up by Grand Leveque 10 days prior to my trip, I had to scramble and luckily ended up with reservations at the Excelsior.
The place is very central - right on the corner of Haussman and Lafayette and just around the corner from Galeries Lafayette, so it's extremely busy and traffic almost all night. That's the biggest minus, so travel with earplugs - we do anyway, mainly for the plane, and they sure helped for a good night's sleep at the hotel.
The very central location did have several plusses - at the end of the day, my daughter and I would rush over for a bit of shopping just before closing; Roissy Bus to CDG is just a 5 min. walk away, and we had no trouble lugging our baggage over; Metro stop right at bottom of street.
We had a triple, and it was a bit small, but this is pretty standard for European rooms. The service was uniformly good - the staff were helpful, courteous, the hotel was very clean and the maid service good. Breakfast was included, and it was just fine although basic. We did step out to Laduree for chocolat chaud and croissants a couple of times - heavenly!
Another plus with the central location is that there are a ton of eating places close by, and a few times at the end of the day, we'd sit at the Tivoli (right by the hotel) and people watch busy Haussman. We didn't eat too much around the hotel though, as I had a few places I wanted to try. We did have Spanish ham (excellent) at the Galeries Lafayette gourmet floor, and oysters at Le Grand Cafe. My husband also had the prix fixe meal which was very good, service was a bit haughty but not unfriendly, and quite professional.
The 2 memorable meals were at L'Arpege and 404! L'Arpege is expensive, but it is unquestionably the finest dining experience we have ever had.

This hotel is in a great location! One is able to walk to many common tourist locations such as Le Madeleine, the Opera Garnier, Place de la Concorde, Place Vendome, and others. There are also several metro stops close to the hotel. As usual in most European cities, the rooms are small. But here you will find them very clean and comfortable. The area is fairly quiet at night and seemed to be quite safe. There are many restauraunts and places to shop nearby (e.g.LaFayette Galleries). The staff was very accommodating and curtious. For the money, this is a great stay!!

I stayed at this hotel for the last 2 days of my holiday and what a lovely place to stay to finish off your holiday! The room was large and bed was so comfortable i didn't want to leave! i suppose the only negative thing i have to say is the lift which was a bit too small. But hey your're in Paris! I would definitly be going back again! I even treated myself to a bit of shopping being so close to the shops!
