This hotel is a really good hotel, it would be a great hotel if only it was actually in Utrecht!!
If your going by train then get the number 37 bus (if i remember right) and its about 2,60euro each, you will be on it a while though dont panic its the penultimate stop.
We ordered a double room but when we got there we had been given a twin room with the beds pushed together, bit cheeky but after complaining they upgraded us to a double with balcony so no complaints there.
The staff could be a bit more friendly, its very much got the feel of a business hotel about it so you get that strange atmosphere about the place.
The health club is included and pretty good, all you need really. The restaurant was a little pricey - but we were only there one night, it works out ok because a taxi into Utrecht is like 20euro each way so by the time you've paid that its prob best to eat in the restaurant. The bar is a little small and expensive.
Would recommend this hotel, we got it on a deal through the internet for about £50 for the room and breakfast and others similar in Utrecht that were availiable were all guest houses and budget hotels so you defo pay for location.

Well contrary to what one writer has put, I have stayed at this hotel on many occasions during the course of business, including during building renovation works, & have found the staff to be most helpful, & the rooms excellent. Meals also very good, but for an equivalent to an English breakfast with fresh fruit etc one would have to pay extra to upgrade. Whenever I find I have been booked into this hotel I am always very pleased.

Have just returned from the Carlton President and found it a great hotel. The rooms are clean and well-equipped, including kettle/tea/coffee, which is not always the case in mainland Europe. The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful - the free internet access in the business centre was a godsend. We were part of a coach tour and this meant that the breakfast was a bit limited as the tour operator was working to a price - we had booked an economy package so could not complain. However, whilst not as lavish as the breakfast for the regular guests, breakfast was perfectly adequate. The 37 bus into Utrecht centre was easily accessible and cost just over two euros. It allowed easy travel from Utrecht Centraal to Amsterdam Centraal for just over 5 euros.
This is a good quality hotel and we would return there.

Have just spent a couple of nights at the Carlton 22nd oct 2004 and found it to be very comfortable and well run with no smells or problems with decor. While it is a small distance from Utrecht the frequent 37 bus which stops just over the road takes just 10 mins and 1.5eur. Everybody will understand your English and the experience of catching the local bus is far more rewarding than being ripped off by using a taxi. In addition, you can get a train to Amsterdam for a further 5-6 Euros in 33 minutes. The continental breakfast is ok unless you are a greedy fry up guzzler, I am constantly embarresed by my rude countrymen who demand Full english breakfast or 18 rounds of toast.

The main problem is that this hotel is away from anything remotely interesting. If you don't have a car and don't like paying 18EUR for a taxi each way to get in and out of Utrecht then this is probably not the place for you.
The bar is pretty small pricey and the service is pretty slow. They also keep running out of large glasses. On the other hand the staff are friendly and helpful and the hotel is generally well kept and clean.
The restaurant leaves a bit to be desired. Due to the fact that there are no restaraunts within easy walking distance, the restarant is often busy but it is very pricey and has a limited menu which gets very boring if you are staying for any length of time (like I was). Breakfast is OK but limited choice and things like omlettes were only cooked when the hotel was busy.
Not a great deal to do in the hotel. There is a pool table and a Carom Billiards table (has no pockets - what are the rules?), a small fitness centre and sauna but no pool. TV's are on all the time in the bar. There is a business centre where you can log onto the internet for free though.
As it is located in an industrial area it is largely aiming at the business traveller and isn't really a good deal for a tourist.
