I just returned with my family and another family - friends of ours who stayed in the room next door. We all woke up yesterday morning and were covered in mosquito bites! My family was not affected as much as our friends were - one of their sons had 45 bites on his head and face alone! The rest of the family had literally dozens of bites all over their bodies and were unable to sleep all night. When they went to the front desk to show them their condition and to request a different room, the desk clerk simply told them that all the rooms have a mosquito problem and she would send someone to take care of it. After a housekeeper showed up and sprayed bug spray in the room, they thought the problem was resolved. After another night of being eaten by the mosquitos, we all checked out this morning. When my friend asked for some sort of discount due to their lack of sleep both nights and the welts all over their bodies, the clerk (the same lady as the night before) just said "No". There was not even an apology to these toddlers who had to suffer with all these bug bites. Immediately when I got home I called Best Western's 800 Customer Service number and spoke to an equally rude service agent who basically told me that there was nothing she could do either. I have a trip scheduled for later this week at a different Best Western, but I am going to cancel because chains that do not care about what happens to their customers do not deserve my business.

Our travel agent booked this hotel for us so we didn't know what to expect. This is a standard 3-4 star hotel, and I mean standard. We had a standard room, which we found clean and comfortable. There was a fridge, mini bar, safe in the room.
The location of this hotel is great. It is in the centre of zona rosa with lots of eating places nearby. We used the subway to get around in the daytime, and the nearest stop is 2 mins walk from the hotel.
We didn't eat in the restaurant as it was expensive, there are plenty of places nearby for breakfast/lunch and dinner.
If you are just after a comfortable, clean, safe place to stay in Mexico City this is the place.
Be aware of the travel agency based in this hotel. We were charged twice for a tour on our credit card (and this is yet to be resolved).

I was traveling with a tour group so I really didn't have a choice in picking this hotel, but I really liked it. My room was on the 15th floor and I had a fabulous view. The room was very spacious, very clean, and very modern. My stay was for 4 nights. I ate breakfast there every day and the breakfast buffet was very good. I also ate dinner in the restaurant 3 of the 4 nights and it was also very good. The rooftop bar is very nice and the bartender made an excellent margarita. There is 24 hour complimentary coffee in the rooftop bar. The front desk and restaurant personnel were all very friendly and helpful. I would stay here again.

I stayed at the Hotel Royal last week, having flown in from London via Miami. We finally arrived and the staff at reception weren't terribly interested in helping us, and after a 15 hour trip all we wanted to do was get to our room.
When we finally got to our room it was pretty grim. On my double bed I only had one pillow case, and the other pillow was uncovered and covered in dubious stains, as was one of the sheets. Eugh.
The bathroom was grotty and needed a thorough clean. The hotel may be cheap but they could at least give you a clean room.
I hardly slept due to the highway outside and the police sirens up and down the street. Breakfast the next day was interesting - it made my old school food like like Michelin star quality food. Tasteless eggs, rock solid 'pancakes' and bitter coffee.
We were due to stay another night there - we cancelled and stayed at the Hotel Emporio, which was more expensive but so much better.
