Great location on Simon Bolivar Park. Reception and Rooms are not plush but made up for by the incredible staff who just cannot help enough. They have a really nice international restaurant if you feel you deserve a treat and also a 24 hour cafe (much used by locals) Guayaquil is MUCH nicer than we were led to believe and really enjoyed our weekend there

With a better location than Hotel Ramada and more affordable than the (excellent) Hampton Inn, Hotel Continental is a solid choice. Service, service, service is what this hotel is all about. Reservations can usually be made without a credit card and without having to worry about getting in by 6 p.m. The price includes full breakfast.
Standard rooms are average-sized, comfortable and spotless.
Downsides - plumbing isn’t the best, as water usage in other rooms will leave you with sporadically scalding bath water.
Also, in contrast with Hotel Ramada and Hampton, airport shuttles are generally not available with Continental, which leaves you bargaining directly with (hopefully legitimate) cab drivers at the airport. Upon checking out, the bellman will hail a cab and make sure you’re not overcharged. ($4 to the airport is about right.) But that’s not the same thing as calling a cab, and therefore no guarantee of getting a legitimate taxi.

I have visited Guayaquil several times in the past two years and have always stayed at the Hotel Continental. The rooms are large, comfortable, very clean and some have a lovely view of the Parque de Iguana and the Cathedral (which is beautifully lighted at night.) They have always been accomodating to me in terms of giving me the room with a view. The bell staff are very friendly and helpful.. They actually remember me each time I visit. The breakfast buffet (included with the room) is very good and fast, which is very handy when one has an early departure from the airport. The hotel is centrally located, only 5 minutes to the Malecon or shopping areas. It is pleasant to stroll in the park across the street. The bar and restaurant are highly rated with excellent food and service. The only negative I can think of is the unfriendly (almost) surly man who acts as cashier!
They have recently raised the rates a bit, but it is still a bargain compared with room rates in large city hotels in the USA.
