We had a mixup with our flight out of Rome and had to spend another night. Mistake one was to go to Margana Travel at the airport for transportation into Rome and to get a hotel until the next day. We said that we wanted to stay at the Marriott in Rome (we had stayed there before) because we wanted at least a 4 star hotel and a gym The woman at the airort highly recommended the Palladium and said it was comparable to the Marriott but cheaper in price. She said it was in a great location, had lovely rooms, was 4 star and had a gym. The room was clean, but was dingy, very tiny, poor air conditioning, and had a hard bed (this was presented as a deluxe room). Also, we were in the front of the hotel and it was very noisey during the night. When we left the hotel out to the right, we were advised by a few people to stay away from the train station (2 blocks away) because it was quite seedy and there was a big problem with crime. My biggest problem with this hotel is it's misrepresentation as a 4 star. They must know the person who "gives out the stars". Earlier in the week we stayed at some very nice 4 star hotels in Rome. We were duped and learned our lesson.

Although 4 stars obviously has a different meaning in Europe than here in the US, the Palladuim Palance is clean, well maintained and includes a decent breakfast. Unless you're planning on spending the entire day in a hotel and not out touring Rome, then don't stay here. But if you are going to go out to the sights, you can't beat the Palladium's location. Its 2 blocks from Termini (the train/ subway/ bus station/ tour buses), so Rome is at your disposal. And at the end of the day, the hotel is comfortable for a good night's rest. As for the rates, the Euro is kicking butt right now so dont expect to get too much for your buck anywhere in Europe.

My family and I just came back from a 5 day 4 night stay at the Hotel Palladium Palace.
The location is very good being very close to Termini station - just two blocks. We walked everywhere in Rome - even to the Vatican - and it was fine. If we needed to take public transport back from a bit of exploring, Termini was right there.
Our room was clean and had very high ceilings - unusual but very nice. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was huge and was fine.
I have to say the staff were brilliant. Our flight departed late in the evening yesterday and we used their quiet front room (off of the main front desk area) for my son to have a nap.
Breakfast was fine with cereals, croissants, yogurts, toast, scrambled eggs, ham, salami, cheeses, tea/coffee/hot chocolate etc.
The lift to our room (we were at the front of the hotel) was indeed very small, but that wasn't a big deal. There was no dresser/chest of drawers to put your clothes away, but that also wasn't a big deal. What was an issue was the smell of the drains. Once the toilet was flushed, the changing water had a sewage smell that pervaded the entire bathroom and bedroom. It was strong at some times - only one other review mentioned it so we didn't think it would be an issue, but it was an annoyance. For the smell reason and the chest of drawers reason I'd have to give the hotel a 3-star rating.
All in all it was a good stay and a good place to use as a Rome exploration base, lovely staff too. I'd stay here again, but I'd hope they fixed the sewage smell by the time I came back!

My niece, sister and I were planning the trip of a life time and I contacted my Timeshare company to book this and several other hotels around Europe. We were given a confirmation of 1 price the 1st night and then discount prices for the next 2 nights. Well, the 2nd day in Rome we were touring the Colossium and I stepped in a hole and broke my ankle. After calling an ambulance and going to the emergency room we finally got back to the hotel where they had the handicapped entrance blocked with plastic plants, I had to hop on one foot, I didn't have any crutches and they just stood and watched my sister and my niece try to help me hop up 2 steps to get to the elevator. When we checked out a day later, my sister and my niece were trying to get the luggage and me into a taxi and pay the bill so we could leave. After we left and got to our next destination, we looked at the bill and found that they had over charged us. We worked at trying to get me a flight home because I could not travel on one foot and when I got home the second week in August, I called my Timeshare people and asked them to help me recoup our money. The Paladium Hotel would not respond to them after several phone calls, e-mails, faxes, etc. They kept asking for copies of the bill, the confirmation, our receipt of what we paid and each time we would fax the same information with no response. We filed a claim and here it is April 1, 2008 and have gotten nothing. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. They don't honor their confirmed prices and they are not very helpful to someone new in their country who needed help.
