Spent 5 nights with my wife at the CA in Anacapri. The amount you will enjoy this hotel will depend upon your expectations.
Its pros: Absolutely stunning location, wonderful view, excellent staff for breakfast and lunch (Lucia is the lady who really is the best feature of this hotel.) The pool area is simply excellent, with ample loungers for all. For pure relaxation with luxury without pretention this hotel is really top notch.
Its Cons: The stunning location means that if you do wish to go to Capri Town for a meal/mooch around, the choice is either an overcrowded mini-bus or a 15 euro cab ride each way.
The front desk staff and service is patchy, some are excellent some good, some really need re-training. As a concierge service they are not 100%, so do your research and make your own bookings. All restaurants speak English so booking is really very straightforward.
Our room was really quite small, with little hanging space for a long stay
Bar tariffs are prohibitive (6euro for a bottle of water by the pool?!) and the room service is pricy the worst offender being a club sandwich at euro 24, mini bar euro 7 for peanuts!!!

This most important thing to have happened at the Caesar Augustus-leaving aside the new Turkish Room, private corner overlooking the bay and the continually stunning gardens-is a new manager.
On our last stay in 2007 we had a super time but there were one or two minor niggles. No more. Thus you should discount the reviews from 2007 which expressed reservations.
There is a real bounce to the hotel just now.
Front desk happy and helpful, safes in rooms ,breakfast first class and the chef Guiseppe Resta fully into his stride with some outstanding food.
As ever breakfast with Lucia and her team a delightful experience.
The rooms are very comfortable but do note the style is very classic Italian so do not expect over the top designer!.
Restaurant recommendations
Da Paulino is ok but there is no passion in the cooking.
Essentially there are three types of eating place in Capri.
1.Places to parade your Prada-the food is fine the experinece good but you pay for the package as opossed to great eating-La Cappanina fo example.
2.Passionate about food
The cooking at the Caesar Augustus is fantastic and the service is charming.
Le Grottelle
Great food enjoy the 30 min walk from the Piazetta
3.Where the locals eat.
Verginiello
great, cheap-for Capri but casual.
The choice is yours
over in Anacapri saraceno does a fine pizza La Matterita is good
AddoRiccio is excellnet but the service can be a bit chilly.
Do remember that Capri is really open for visitors for 6 months and is,at the end of the day a seaside destination.
If you want an egg white omelette -as a we heard a couple asking for-then this is not the place for you.
Otherwise enjoy and relax in the delights of the Caesar Augustus.
Friendly, charming, relaxed great food -a place to treasure.

My wife and I booked a last minute trip to Capri and were a bit worried about finding a 5 star hotel available only 3 days before we left. After reading some of the reviews I see why but we couldn't disagree more!! We stayed in a great room which was a garden view however our view had oceanviews as well. The hotel arranged transfers from the marina and took us right up to the hotel which was magnificicent. The views are amazing as well as the pool and amenities. The prices were high but it's Capri and you're at a 5 star hotel -- if you don't want to pay than got to Florida! The only complaint we had was the dinner recommendation was to Da Paolino which is simlar to an Italian version of Sizzler with lemons on the ceiling!! My wife and I plan on returning soon.

We spent our honeymoon weekend in this fab hotel which was more like a home than a hotel. The photos on this website are true and genuine but you have to FEEL this place, too. And that is a true extraordinary experience. It's a luxury eagle's nest on the rocks, high above the see. The road is very close but there is no noise because this house is built "downhills" towards the sea. Having had all the luxury, the real luxury to us was the kindness of the staff and the fact that we could be just normal, meaning that it was no problem at all to put our old, rented rusty bike right in front of the entrance, next to a big Ferrari, and nobody moved it aside or hid it in the bushes. In fact, the staff enjoyed this old bike very much. It was luxury to us that we, for once, could be just as anybody else in this world, not being bothered by anyone and still being treated like we were home and not hotel guests. Go and check out yourself. To us, there are no words for the feelings we had in this place. We will be back.
