This is a two star property right next to the main train station. Rooms are so small, you can't swing a tennis racket. No A/C meant that in summer this was a furnace. Internet was free. Only consolation. The deco is horrible, the toilette very, very small. No redeeming features other than free internet, location, and a surprisingly excellent breakfast. Other than that, you should avoid this hotel unless your standards are 2 star or below.

Excelsior was our first night in Europe and it was a great start. From the minute we walked in we felt welcomed. The beds were great, must have been pretty new with lovely duvets. The included breakfast was beautiful, catering for everyones needs. Well positioned straight across the road from the station. Which is great when new to a city.

Much better than good value! The Frankfurt Chamber of Commerce must be subsidizing heavily for this room rate to be possible. (But we found many Frankfurt hotels really inexpensive after Paris, Rome and Venice and even smaller French and Italian towns. On return trip we tried to stay at same hotel and could not as fully booked – instead we stayed at Colour Hotel just around the corner - ?75 for two incl breakfast and almost as good. Adjoining 4star National hotel only ?97 incl breakfast) Our plane landed in Frankfurt one evening and as we were due to catch an early train the next morning we wanted an hotel very close to Frankfurt station to make our late arrival and early departure simple. Hotel was 60 metres from station. Really! The room was very spacious. About 42m2 for room and bathroom. Simply but adequately furnished, bathroom small but adequate. Bathroom had been recently refurbished and retiled, and bedroom carpet was new. Included in room rate was incredible breakfast – just about anything you could imagine for breakfast anywhere. Not just the basic breakfast we experienced almost everywhere else. Easily the best breakfast we experienced in our last two trips to Germany, France and Italy covering about 5 weeks in total. Based on our experiences at other European hotels the breakfast was worth ?20 for the two of us. The hotel was very efficiently run with minimum services and almost no staff. There was a small restaurant we did not try. Included in the room rate were - breakfast as mentioned - free minibar in room (generously stocked with beer, water, fruit juice, and pepsi) - Free internet usage from internet point in room - Free phonecalls within Germany - Use of business centre with PC’s and printer and internet access - Use of small meeting room - Free ironing of two garments by staff - Use of ironing room - No coffee/tea in room but lounge area at reception stocked with coffee tea and cakes, self service Once again phenomenal value!

I recently stayed at the Excelsior Hotel after reading other reviews. I was not dissapointed. The hotel's location is excellent right next to the main railway station and only a short walk into the city centre. The room was spacious and very clean and it had a free mini bar which came in handy. The breakfast was excellent too with plenty of choice to suit all tastes. It was excelelnt value for money and I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to other people.
