This hotel is between the city and the airport and we were given the room because we had to transit overnight. Although the hotel appeared a bit run down from outside it was pleasant and quiet (we were upgraded to the 7th floor away from the lifts). The staff were pleasant and the Kapong district had many cheap eateries.

I work for a Singapore company, and they always put me in the Paramount. (Cheap company!) My first stay was in 2001, and I have probably spent over 12 weeks there since that time. This last stay was against my better judgement due to noise issues during recent trips, but it was a last minute trip.
Years ago, the hotel was OK. But, as others have mentioned, the clubs on the ground floor have become an increasing problem. I will not even stay on the east side of the hotel because of the noise, and the elevators are also very noisy. The breakfast was usually cold.
I got back home from this last trip and checked on my credit card accounts. I discovered three rather expensive calls charged to the credit card that I used to check in to the hotel. It was the only time I used the card that week. Upon further investigation, one call was to Malaysia, where I only know one person, who works for me. The other two calls were to India, where I know no one. Furthermore, I had US and SingTel cell phones to make calls with. I had no need to use a charge card for phone calls.
The company that billed my charge card told me they only deal with pay phones and HOTEL phones, and that a billing zip code must also be provided for the call to go through. There is only one place in Singapore that had both pieces of information, and that is the Paramount Hotel. Someone on their staff swiped my information, and made phone calls charged against my credit card. I have had to cancel this credit card, file a dispute against the charges, and I will be filing a complaint with the Singapore Police.
Do not stay at the Paramount, unless you are hard of hearing, don't mind cold food, and you want your charge card used by the staff for their personal needs.

It was a reasonably priced hotel and therefore chosen as my overnight stay before heading back to the airport. The accommodation was clean but I agree with June 2007, the furnishings were a little tired, but then I wasn't paying top price either. I didn't see any of the other reviewers prostitutes or nightclubs, but then I didn't leave the room.
The room had a very slight musty smell, but that seems to be a problem in most 3 star hotels in humid countries. Perhaps they could install an airfreshener device.

This hotel is due to be knocked down in a couple of months - its cheap and OK to stay in, but the "nightclubs" downstairs are what draw most male visitors. Phillipino and Vietnamese prostitutes at least 300 strong fill these clubs and entertain guests who venture there back at their rooms...

My wife and I have spent 8 to 10 nights here in late May to early June for the last 3 years and will be returning next week. We have found the staff to be outstanding, the food good and the room nice. The furnishings are a little worn but everything in our room was comfortable. We asked for the door to our balcony to be unlocked and it was done so immediately. We did not have any problem with the noise. The bars in the old shopping area on the ground floor are seedy but did not cause us any concern. There is a little quick stop grocery, etc store in the hotel where the owner and his family are great. We only ate our breakfasts at the hotel but found the food and the service to be quite good. The large shopping center across the street and down 1 block was nice and has several American fast food places as well as local cuisine, nice stores and fair prices. We like the place.
