What's that mildew in the bathroom?

We stayed for one night (Saturday). I was expecting a 4-star hotel. It should have been a 2-star hotel. It was a lot better than the hotel that we stayed at in London (The Royal National Hotel). But, there was lots of mildew on the ceiling and the shower door was half missing. I don't get it. European hotels seem to expect mildew and mold. We had that in London, too. Aren't there building inspectors? Also, was a half of a shower door there so that people wouldn't move it? And, since it was a half shower door, it was not held securely so the water came out when you showered. This definitely would not be allowed in the U.S. especially in a 4-star hotel, maybe a sleazy motel. Also, the front desk staff weren't terribly hospitable or helpful. I had trouble dialing out to Bruges and told them that. And, they didn't go out of their way to help.

Excellent weekend break using Eurostar from Ebbsfleet.
Good location, about a 15 minute stroll downhill to the Grand Place.
We had a lovely, spacious room. There is a variety of hot and cold food at breakfast time. Staff were cheerful, pleasant and helpful. Would certainly return.
Beauriful city, the Open Top Bus Tour is good value and informative. the bonus was the Annual Jazz Festival!

I recently stayed at Hotel Leopold for a few nights on business. The hotel was okay but its not what you expect from a 4 star hotel the room was basic there were a couple of comfortable seat s however you couldn't use them as they just about fitted between the wall and the bed. I had problems with the heating and I found out that a few other rooms did as well, it took 3 hours to get a temporary heater in the room so I went to bed in a very cold room. The bistro is pleasant and the food was okay but not inspiring, if you are staying here I would recommend heading 2 minutes down the road to Luxembourgplein where there are several places to eat.
