The stunning vast public rooms on the ground floor (you find yourself thinking of the guests about to embark on the Titanic) and remarkably efficient breakfast service were good things to remember, as was the patience of staff on Reception.
My 5th floor room stank of stale cigarette smoke. The TV only got BBC1 and the remote didn't work at all.
My bed was very good but others in my party disagreed strongly - it looks as if there are some new and some old ones.
The pattern on the carpet didn't go with the patterned curtains which didn't match the upholstery which didn't match the wallpaper... But worst of all was the evening when we were in a hurry to attend an official dinner and many members of the party and a lot of members of other parties were all locked out of their rooms due to a glitch with the electronic keys. The inadequate lifts and the need to visit Reception to sort it out meant we were very late for an important appointment.
Overall, it's an experience to remember and it's a pity I can't score it higher.

We wre looking for somewhere special for our two night stay and liked the look of the Adelphi, full of character.
Little did we know, on arrival we had to wait at the check in desk for at least 20mins before even being acknowledged, all the staff was complaining about there systems being down and arguing with each other for access to a terminal, when we finally got the key to our room on the 5th floor, we entered the lift to find take away bags and empty beer cans on the floor, the smell of stale beer and smoke was apparent as soon as you left the lift on the 5th floor, the decor was very dated and shabby all over the hotel, the room was dirty, we stayed for two nights, they didn't even service our room properly the bed was unmade, they had been in put the towels back on the rail in the bathroom and that was it.
We didn't use the spa due to the fact that you had to pay extra for that and also had to pay extra for parking. We were so disappointed that we did not want to spend any more of our money in the hotel we had felt cheated by what we had paid for the room. Due to it's uncleanliness and deterioration.
Staff was not helpful at all, facilities useless, I tried to get access to an iron this was available with a ?10 deposit, when I went to get it they said they had given them all out and there were none available for me to use.
I would not recommend this hotel.

Just back from a 5day/4 nights stay here, with friends, and I found no real problem with this hotel. We had rooms on the 6th floor with views over the 2 cathedrals and the river. The rooms were standard size doubles, large enough for our stay. The public rooms were spectacular and the location of the hotel was excellent. Liverpool 1, a new shopping centre, is only 10 minutes stroll away and the Albert Docks were only 25 minutes stroll away.
The only drawback was the service in the dinning room can be slow at times, there is a lack of staff for the numbers eating, but it was a minor niggle. The amount of food was fine as well as the quality and there was no noticeable waiting for the food, both morning and evening.
Seems like we went to a different hotel from some other reviewers here, I would recommend this hotel and I would go again.

I was initially quite excited to be staying at the Adelphi as the building as aspects of grandeur about it. My room appeared to be clean and was quite large. However, I found some staff to be quite rude, and within 24 hours of my stay I am covered in what appear to be bed bug bites. DO NOT stay in room 309, and check other rooms too.
