Good value, good locatiom

Delightful location within the old town, overlooking one of the many canals. Parking not easy. Hotel clean and staff most helpful. Excellent & plentiful buffet breakfast. Need to seek out old town restaurant for evening meals (= expensive, everywhere!) Our room was an attic conversion with exposed timbers but perfectly comfortable. Old town centre 10 minutes' walking. For Bruges central hotel prices this was most reasonable. My wife and I (in our sixties) would happily return.
Adequate budget hotel

Just had three days here with a friend. OK for a short break but there were some problems. First, we had booked one of the rooms to be a smoking room but they didn't have a record of that. When we insisted, they did, however, allow smoking in one the rooms. The bathrooms were cramped and slightly tatty and one of the the shower spray heads was missing which meant the water came out as if it was a tap. On one evening the bar was not open at all and on another it closed promptly at 11.00 although we were allowed to take our drinks to our rooms. Lastly, when we were leaving, we asked for the train times from Bruges to Brussels but one of the times we were given was four minutes later than the correct time which meant that when we got to the station we did not find the time we were expecting on the departure board. We enquired and so in the end it did not matter but it was a slight worry for a while.
On the plus side, we had booked two singles but were actually given two twins so there was plenty of room. Beds were hardish but we both liked that, and the breakfast, as others have said, was very good - gorgeous bread and a plentiful array of cereals, cheese, ham, jams, yoghourts etc. Some fruit would have been nice though, as would tea/coffee-making facilities in the rooms. But maybe that is not common in Belgian hotels. Location was great, as other reviews have pointed out - very close to the main Markt square but in a very quiet street by a lovely canal.
Overall, a perfectly adequate place to stay for a short break and pretty good value for money (56 euros per person per night). And everything was clean. But the general dowdiness got to me after a while and I wouldn't have wanted to stay for longer.

We have just come back from a Five day break with four nights at the Europ booked through Eurostar.
This is an old and creaky hotel but it is pleasantly situated although there are no double glazed windows and therefore a little draughty, the room we had was small compared to others we saw but suited us. Beds were firm but ok, bathroom was tiny but not a problem. Breakfast as everyone here has said was good with plenty of choice unless you are one of the hot food folk then you would have to go out for your breakfast.
The canal outside the hotel made for some fantastic photos with reflections day and night.
We did the hour bus tour from the square which was somewhere to keep warm as it was cold but sunny during our stay.
Took the train to Ghent for the day which was different to Brugge.
We walked round most of the perimeter of the old town along the wide canals giving us some different views.
I would recommend the Europ if you want a reasonably priced basic hotel.

We booked the Europ Hotel (rated as 2* on the website we used) using the 'Take The Tunnel' website, to organise Channel Tunnel crossing with hotel accommodation. We had two rooms for one night, as it was a short 'girls going shopping' weekend. The hotel was a little tricky to find, due to Bruges' one-way streets, but once we were at the hotel, it was really well located. It was next to a little bridge, over a lovely canal, so the atmosphere was very picturesque. The hotel itself was clean and tidy, and the welcome from the female owner was friendly and helpful (we later encountered the male owner, and he was a bit abrupt and not as friendly). One room we had was on the first floor, and it was very spacious with two double beds, a seating area with chairs and a coffee table, and a big bathroom with bathtub (with shower), and two sinks. All was very clean, and plain, nothing fancy. The second room was on the ground floor, and was very compact, with two twin beds, and a small bathroom with shower only. It was clean and tidy as well, but when compared with the room on the first floor, really stood out as being tiny. It was fine for one night though.
The hotel was a short walk from the main market square, so once we were parked on the street by the hotel (using a parking wheel purchased from the hotel for 3euros), we did not use the car again.
We had a few drinks in the small bar Saturday night, and it was a cosy, relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast on Sunday was very good, with a variety of fresh-baked breads, plus eggs, cold meats, cheeses, yogurts, juice, coffee, and tea.
All in all, a very good hotel for the money, in a lovely little city for a short break, and we'll all definitely go back - the shopping in Bruges was FANTASTIC!
