This hotel has a wonderful location so this is a big plus.
Some rooms are tiny but that is to be expected in Paris. I stayed at another TimHotel in Paris a few years ago and was looking forward to the same good service. This was not the case. I think the workers as the reception desk may have been more helpful had they not seemed so overworked. Most of the time there was only one person on duty which meant it was very difficult to get a call through to the desk or have someone call into the hotel and get a call to your room.
The biggest problem was the elevator. There was a sign on it that said it could hold six people. We arrived with a group of 30 travelers. Three got on the elevator with luggage. They went up to the second floor and the elevator cable broke. They plummeted down to the sub-basement. If this wasn't traumatic enough, there was no phone in the elevator and only a little bell. It took over 15 minutes before it was discovered that they were stuck. Someone went down and pried the door open. They had to climb out. One would have expected that the hotel management would at least express concern, ask if they were okay, or even offer some medical help. One person had a cane. They just kept telling us they were not technicians. 26 of our group of 30 were stranded in the lobby for about 2 hours and they never even offered us a glass of water. When we finally begged for it they got bottles of water. Throughout all this, there was one receptionist [I think he was Indian] who was pleasant. But the other man was stoic and unresponsive. He suddenly did not understand any English.
They could not repair the elevator until the next day so members of our group who ranged in age from mid 50s to almost 80 had to walk up and down the 6 flights of stairs. They were finally able to change one person's room but that was all.
Getting an extra pillow was another huge issue. They said they didn't have any. After two days an extra pillow was finally located. Receiving a call was also difficult. They just let the phone ring for one person who tried to call me. Calling the desk was difficult. That worried me because I wondered what would happen if someone had an emergency in thier room. Wake-up calls were also problematic. The first day, the call didn't come as scheduled and I had to call and ask them to contact the others in our group. The had only called two rooms.
In general, I would say that there were not enough people serving the guests in the hotel. The hotel was full and it would seem that a full hotel would warrant one more person on the desk.

My boyfriend and I have just come back from a 4-day break to Paris where we stayed at the Timhotel Opera Madeleine. The location was great (only about a 5-10 minute from the Place de la Concorde) and the room was lovely. It was very clean and spacious! Randomly we were given a room with four twin beds, two bathrooms, airconditioning and a balcony overlooking the road even though there was only two of us. I was apprehensive because previous reviews have criticised the size of the rooms but we were extremely fortunate!
Previous reviews have really critised the elevator too so we always used the stairs. We were on the 5th floor and after walking the whole of Paris taking a few flight of stairs was minor!
We did not take the breakfast option with the hotel and got really stung on our first morning! We ended up paying ?20 for 2 coffees, a piece of bread and 5 crossiants at the Cafe Madeleine just opposite the Madeleine Church. They charge you about 2euros for each croissant so be warned even though they bring you a plate of 5! From experience we would recommend you go Paul's bakery (there on nearly every corner-a bit like Greggs), they're cheap but the patisseries and baguettes are absoultely lovely!!
Now for the negatives im afraid...
If you look for service when booking a hotel do not book this hotel! The staff are lazy and if you have to ask them something-either with regard to your room or the local area they are useless! We had a problem with the lock on our door one evening and we had to wait for the receptionist to finish his personal conversation before he came to help us. Although he did fix the lock he was still having his private conversation whilst doing it. Needless to say I was not too impressed!
The surrounding area is not that great at night with young people loitering outside the station (Gare de St. Lazare) and it is really hard to find somewhere nearby to eat. The restaurants are extremely expensive and the food is not that great. Although the Marais area has some lovely little places and Montmatre too they are quite far from the hotel and not ideal if you're looking for something closeby.
Overall though Paris is wonderful! I loved our break and the Timhotel was a good base to discover the city.

Paris is a great city but not because of the hotels. I have stayed at Timhotels before and they are pretty crammy. But this one was actually quite decent. It seems to have been recently renovated and the service and breakfast were quite good. It helped that I was lucky to have gotten a huge room - I am sure they are not all like that. Pretty decent overall.

Was a guest for 4 nights as part of a tour group. Rooms were small but OK for our needs.. Breakfast options were good.
Upon arrival ( mid afternoon) we found that the elevator was small and inadequate to accommodate large groups at a time, limit being about 3 persons and their luggage, we had 30. Hotel procedure states that to use the elevator from the ground floor one needs to call reception, request the elevator and then it would be sent down. After waiting for some time, we realized that the elevator had dropped 2 floors with 3 women from our group inside. What I found to be unacceptable was that the men at the front desk, especially the person in charge, had no concern for the well being of these women, who were stuck in the elevator, and then, once the doors were released had to climb the stairs from the basement to the reception area and then to their rooms. They were very shaken and frightened yet no-one employed by the hotel even offered them a glass of water. In fact the behavior of the one in charge was rather arrogant, he lacked common coutesy at a time when he should have shown some consideration and sensitivity. Further, one of those women had to wait until 9:30 pm before she received her luggage.
Needless to say, the elevator was out of commission from the time it dropped until mid morning the next day. Stairs were the only option. Our rooms were scattered from the 2nd to the 7th floor. We were grateful that our guide and one of the hotel staff carried most of the luggage to our rooms for us.
Would I recommend this hotel? There were many times throughout our stay when we followed procedure in calling the elevator and there was no response from the desk. This meant we had to walk the stairs to get to the reception desk. If a person has limited mobility, this could be problematic. Decision is yours.
