Nice Tuna Sandwiches

Booked through Lastminute.com as one of their secret hotel deals. Not a bad location, away from the hustle and bustle of the Ramblas, but within walking distance of all of the key sites. Based in the area of the designer shops (Burberry, Diesel, Massimo Dutti etc...), very cool but very expensive.
Hotel itself decent although nothing special. The roof terrace sets it apart from the average hotel - great for chilling out in the sun with a cool beer. Surprisingly sparsely populated too.
Room pretty basic, but no problems with it. Slightly disappointed having read other reviews that we didnt get an exercise bike!
Staff helpful, particularly Eric - who managed to perform an excellent Manuel impression with very little effort...
Bonus is that when you ask for one tuna sandwich, you end up with two....

This was OK but wouldn't consider it to be a 4 star hotel. There were a few pluses though: the reception staff (particularly Manuel) were very friendly, efficient and really helpful. We got there early after getting off a cruise and luckily were able to check in OK. The pastries at breaksfast were gorgeous! Got a free welcome Cava served by a very friendly barman. Hotel room was spotlessly clean. Sweet terrace with a stunning view. Watched a thunderstorm in the distance and it was spectacular. Toiletries OK and free bedroom slippers.
Minus points: steps up to reception with heavy luggage, small pool (like a pond!), cooked breakfast included hot dog sausages and scrambled eggs which was an omelette chopped up. Room was in a dark and dingy corner somewhere and the view comprised of a wall and windows with an air conditioning unit covered in pigeon poo and cigarette butts. The shower head couldn't be adjusted. Perhaps we got this room because we arrived so early. Suggest you ask for one with a balcony overlooking rambla de catalunya. Location was not for us as it was in the business and fashion area (eg nearby Chanel and Prada shops) - it lacked 'local' atmosphere. No double bed but two singles. Only one small flat pillow per bed with no spares. Stayed on Sunday night but were disconcerted to find a security guard patrolling reception to protect the only female receptionist on duty!
Overall a perfectly acceptable hotel, but not 4 stars in my opinion.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in March 2008.
Initial impressions of the hotel were positive, the hotel is located centrally and almost all of the attractions we wanted to see were in walking distance.
There is a small but pleasant reception area in the hotel and the staff were very helpful and spoke good english. Our room overlooked the Rambla de Catalunya and was high up so we had a fantastic view of the city (especially the Montejuic area). The room had 2 double beds pushed together and was a generous size, the balcony was also big enough to sit out on and would have been fantastic if we had visited in summer. The bathroom was spacious, nicely decorated and included the usual amenities. Throughout, the room was spotlessly clean.
As it was winter season I can't comment on the pool area, although we did use the small bar area and the waiter was very nice and helpful. We were given a complimentary drink voucher on check in which was a nice tough.
As we spent very little time in the hotel the review is fairly short, although we would stay here again in the future if we visited Barcelona again.

We stayed for 1 week in a twin room at the Regente in late April. Was somewhat concerned given some of the reviews, but ended up being pleasantly surprised. The location was absolutely perfect. Close to everything, but in a quieter area. Good restaurants and great shopping all very close. Always felt safe when walking at night. No problem with pickpockets despite all the warnings. Did take all the safety advice to heart though, so maybe that helped. The front desk staff spoke english to varying degrees, from fluent to struggling, but all were extremely helpful and friendly. The room was typical for the price range in Europe...smaller than you'd expect in North America, but more than big enough for 2. Very large bathroom. Inexplicable exercise bike taking up valuable floor space. Rooms cleaned early and spotlessly every day. Large buffet breakfast with a wide range of choices, including hot dishes.
Minor negatives: Twin room was 2 twin beds pushed together. Not a problem for us (mother and daughter travelling together) but maybe a little cozy for 2 friends or 2 business associates. No way to separate the beds. Room and closets maybe a little small for 2 women with lots of clothing. TV reception not great, but miraculously better on nights when the Champions League was being played.
Overall, would highly recommend and if I return to Barcelona will definitely consider as a first choice.

We have been to Barcelona several times,& were a bit dubious when we read some of the reviews. However, there was no need to worry - fabulous!!! - our room was overlooking Ramblya de Catalunya on the 7th floor it was absolutely spotless , & the staff couldn't do enough for you. Also the roof terrace was a lovely place to sit out & slowly let the world go by after a day of seeing all the sights .We absolutely loved it - it was the best hotel in Barcelona that we've stayed in and we've stayed in a few!,& we'll definetly be booking again.
