A few steps to the main railway station, near other large hotels like the Sofitel etc. Like in most European metropolis the area around the railway station can be busy and parts of it can also be a bit seedy, on the plus side everything is within easy transport reach of course. A smallish lobby leads to the bar, which is rather dark and gloomy (to be refurbished in the summer, I was told) and a grand staircase leads to the downstairs conference rooms and breakfast area. I'd like to dwell on the latter as this is really the piece de resistance of this establishment. The buffet breakfast is one of the largest I have seen in years of travelling around Europe. You could easily try a different combination each day of the week... dried fruit, fresh fruit, cereals, hot dishes (including broth), cold cuts, preserves galore, pastries, in short: a feast. The restaurant itselff is also quite pleasant, if you don't mind the 'modern Bavarian glitz'. Where the hotel doesn't score too highly is in the bedrooms. The bathrooms are fine with a decent selection of toiletries and bath robes (Executive rooms only). Bedrooms are well equipped, except that the air conditioning is really poor, too noisy and completely ineffective. Just in case you wonder it's controlled centrally, so no adjustments are possible. I also found the bed very uncomfortable. I tend to prefer firmer mattresses, the one in my room was way too soft for my likings. Finally, a closer inspection of the d?cor showed signs of age, despite of this housekeeping standards were good. There is a lovely swimming pool on the top floor, which I guess is a plus in Munich. Yes, I would stay again if I couldn't find anything better, but this hotel doesn't quite do it for me, a bit too anonymous and let down by the details I have mentioned.

This was the third time that we have stayed at the Maritim - as a base to visit several Christmas markets.
The hotel is two minutes from the main station and, although the area is somewhat poor, the treatment by the staff more than makes up for that.
An e-mail to the hotel, requesting bookings to be made at well known Munich restaurants was actioned and a polite reply received.
The reception staff were keen to deal with any query and very helpful.
Breakfast was exceptional with excellent service ( and smoked salmon and champagne if you felt like it!)..
The bar does tend to get busy at some times and has the usual high hotel charges, but the staff were attentive. The Bistro bar is also expensive, but with excellent eating houses in Munich , that is not an issue.
Check in and check out were speedy and suitcases were safely looked after.
Being near the station, trains, cabs, trams and the S-bahn are all withing easy reach.
All in all, an enjoyable break at a well run hotel.

My room was only 165 Euro but I was upgraded to a suite (I didn't know this until I stepped into my room...!). So naturally I am very happy with this hotel!
Clean, comfortable room and bathroom. Great staff - all reception staff spoke English also. The lunch buffet was lovely with attentive staff.
Location is great - cross the road out of the main central station entrance and opposite to the right is the road the hotel is on. Ignore the casino and 'sexy land' lapdancing club, and the location is fine!! Lots of people around so fine for lone travellers.

i've been there for a week sharing a twin room with my co-worker.
Good points: the room was spacious with 2 chairs and a small table, the location close to the station and walking distance from the very centre, the bed very comfortable, bathroom nice and spacious.
Bad points: i didn't like the furniture (quite dated... '70s style). we had to pay extra €15 for 1 day internet connection, the horrible surrounding area (a strip club next door), the pool was quite small (but fortunately also quite desert!).
the breakfast wasn't included, they asked extra €9 for it. better the nearby station, which had plenty of choice!

Rien d’exaltant...
