Trekking in Nepal and decided to spoil myself on my last couple days with a 5 star hotel. I slept in a lot of interesting and basic rooms trekking for an average of $5 a night but none so filthy as this. Little did I know this would ruin an almost perfect trip. The room they gave me was 1 star quality. The stench from the mold in the room was overwhelming, everything was dirty. When I complained and asked the Manager to come to the room and verify my observations he refused. From other reviews I have read the mold and smell issues are well documented. I was offered an upgraded room for $40 more per night and since they already had my money I had no choice. I paid for a slightly better room that still smelled of mold with garage sale furniture and old linins. The price I ended up paying was the same as the Yak and Yeti which is a beautiful place and truely a 5 star establishment. The breakfast buffet was good and aside from the Manager as with pretty much every Nepali the staff was very nice. Stay away!

The hotel is very well located in central Kathmandu but does not have an ounce of the hospitality from the Taj group that owned it earlier. Rooms were comfortable and had old fittings. The bathroom had a musty smell, the carpets were run down. But the food was surprisingly good. Not friendly staff, since one of them snatched the Indian newspaper from my hand and the restaurant manager forbid me to pick up the paper from the restaurant. Appalling hospitality.
