MY TRAVEL STYLE: If possible, I try to stay away from business and strongly prefer resorts that resemble the Four Seasons, Aman, and Oberoi but try to find similar properties at lower cost. I seek out the “wow” experiences and I encourage you to view hotels I have stayed at and their respective reviews (by clicking on my name).
LOCATION: Excellent. Views of the water are great and the location is adjacent to the love river.
BEST WAY TO GET THERE: Taxi from the train station took less than 10 minutes and about 100 NT.
TYPE OF ROOM: Standard view room.
BED/SHEETS/PILLOW: Bed is hard but acceptable. Linens are luxurious and the pillows are down and comfortable.
LIGHTING: Good lighting in bedroom and excellent in bathroom.
BATHROOM/SHOWER: Shower has strong water pressure and consistently hot water temperature. Don’t like the shower curtain, but at least it doesn’t get in the way.
TOILETRIES: Good but may want to bring your own.
CLEANLINESS: Entire room and hotel common areas are very clean.
A/C: Quickly and quietly would get the room cool if desired.
CLOSET SPACE: Enough space for 2 people to unpack most items. Larger closet than average.
QUIET/MORNING LIGHT: Room was quiet from hotel noise, but noise from the water area is noticeable but not too loud. Music could be heard as well. The curtains block all the morning sun light.
FOOD: Only had breakfast which has mostly Asian food in addition to 3-4 types of cereal, yoghurt, eggs, waffles, and fruit. Decent quality but nothing to write home about.
TV/INTERNET: TV is not a flat screen but is a good size for the size of the room. 5-8 English channels are available with several movie channels. Internet is 200 NT for 24 hours. If you join their hotel club membership (n/c), internet fees are waived. Internet is wired and very fast.
SERVICE: Staff are very friendly and helpful.
COMMON AREA: Good 4 to 4.5 star quality lobby area. Probably was impressive many years ago, but still good today. Pool looked ok, but nothing that made me have to go in for a swim.
ROOM & CITY TIPS: Higher floors will have better views of the water. Definitely upgrade to a water view since it’s really a good view. Was going to stay at the Grand Hi-Lai but they were booked. Ended up being happy to stay here because of the great water view. I recommend this hotel even though it’s more of a business hotel, somewhat luxurious, yet nothing memorable beyond the view.

The Ambassador is generally considered as one of the top hotels in Kaohsiung, and it fully deserves its reputation. The rooms and the service are beyond reproach, the property is attractive and well maintained, and "harbor view" rooms have excellent views of the city and the Love River. The hotel is located a bit away from the center of Kaohsiung but that's no problem as taxis are plentiful and cheap (about NT$100 = US$3 to the town center). It's worth getting a harbor view room, because most of the other rooms look out at buildings. All in all, a first-class hotel.

I stayed at this hotel as a longterm business traveller. I was there for 9 months in total. I thought the level of service was awful considering how much money my Company had spent there.
The only nice people to deal with were the cleaning staff who were fantastic.
The rooms are very small and at the weekends the bus loads of tourists make breakfast and getting an early night a nightmare.
The desk staff were awful and would not even lift a finger to help us out in the slightest. The price for internet was extautionate.
Location is good but then there are other hotels in the area.

I couldn't find anything wrong with the Ambassador Hotel in Kaoshiung (not that I look for them). Stayed 2 nights on this property and the first thing that greets you is the large revolving door with leads you to a nice lobby giving you a feeling of spaciousness. The rooms are of regular size ; same with the bathrooms. Blankets and pillows were of excellent quality! I guess one good sign of an excellent business hotel is that I never see any housekeeping staff nor their carts in the hallway, but always found the room made and towels changed when I get back.
Only drawback for a business hotel internet connection is Taiwan$ 300/day.
