My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks in May/June and it was the most chill out place we have ever been to. The people are so friendly and make you feel like part of a family. They look after you wherever you are, whether it be the bar/restaurant or just getting a taxi for you, nothing is too much trouble.
The hotel is right on the beach and when you look out there is nothing but the horizon.... we seen a turtle laying eggs whilst we were there, around 11.30 at night with the turtle watch team, that was something special and probably something I will never experience again in my lifetime.
Food at Southern Palms is brilliant recommend the smoked chicken pasta and fishcakes and everything on the menu!!! all good stuff...
Recommend Pisces Restaurant, Bellin's, Jossefs,Davids Place and don't forget to visit the Ship Inn (prices very easy on pocket there) St Lawrence gap is 5 mins walk away and if you return by taxi its only 13 to 15 bajun dollars (if you have new shoes on its a must to get a taxi)... agree a price before you enter cab. Cabs are lovely and clean and people nice and chatty. Overall food is good.
Some nice little old fashioned gift shops small and friendly and they leave you to browse.
Nice little breakfast place over the road from hotel called Happy Days... an English couple have it open until 2pm and close Sundays but breakfast is well and truly worth a visit here, and their specials steak and onions is tasty...yummy in fact. We rang home through their internet, made three calls one morning and it only amounted to less than 3.00 pounds sterling.
Everything about this place is beautiful.. visit Bridgetown.. bus from hotel will take you free, just give the driver a tip on the way back. Some nice jewellery places and cheaper than home for some things. Cigs & booze & jewellery bought at Cave Shepherd in Bridgetown is taken off you and taken to the airport where you pick up on your departure home.
With Virgin they do a chill and checkout at the hotel so your bags are taken around 10.30 on the day of departure to the airport and all you are left with is your swimwear and something to wear on the journey home. Found this quite good apart from having a bag of stuff to carry home on the plane of wet swimwear etc. Dont bring towels you pick up the pink towels from the hotel every day and change as many times as you like.. so dont take your own towels.. save the baggage weight for something else.
What more can I say except give it a visit... when we were thinking of going to Barbados we read the reviews and this was one of the reasons we picked the Southern Palms to other hotels. It was room only because we like to eat out so the money you save not being all inclusive, you can spend on eating out at some lovely Restaurants etc. well recommended...
If you have a family or there are 4 of you, ask for a suite at hotel... these are gorgeous, home from home big wide screen televisions in bedrooms and living room, kitchen brilliant, bathroom spacey too... a must with kiddies.
We normally like 10 days but after 2 weeks we could still have stayed for at least another week. Was a wonderful holiday and one which we will remember for a long time to come. We would like to re-visit again and hopefully next year we might just do that.

My husband and I were married at the Southern Palms last year. Jenni the wedding co-ordinator was brilliant. Everything was so well organised and totally relaxing. All i can say is its a fantastic hotel in a fantastic location. Our room had breathtaking ocean views and it was clean and spacious with 2 double beds, it also had a kitchenette and a balcony (even the pool/garden rooms have ocean views!).We stayed on a room only basis, we ate breakfast just across the road (cheaper than in the hotel). We ate out most nights as there were so many restaurants to choose from. The beach was long and wide, uncrowded and has lovely soft white sands and the sea is clear and warm, the beach is the best on the island. The hotel is about a five minute walk to St Lawrence gap where there are lots of bars and beautiful restaurants, (the ship inn was cheap and cheerful with a great atmosphere, my dad loved it there especially as the football was on! we went to Pisces which is right on the sea front, it was so beautiful) there is a bank and many shops. We did eat at the hotel a few nights, and the food was lovely, we also had our wedding meal at the hotel (the chef prepared a special menu for us) and it was out of this world. We went on Friday to the Fish Fry night at Oistins, to sample the local culture. My husband and I actually bought our wedding rings in Bridgetown! We went on the helicopter tour, which was excellent, about 30 minutes and was very smooth. My sister, daughter and friends went on the catarman cruise, they fed and swam with the fish and turtles, they said it was out of this world. Even after 2 weeks we had a fantastic time and didnt want to go home. We will definately be back (hopefully for our wedding anniversary).

My husband and I booked a 6 day trip and stayed at the Southern Palms Beach Resort, and once again we were beyond satisfied. We are familiar with this hotel and staff and we were very impressed that after 2 1/2yrs, they remembered us! We stayed in an oceanfront suite, directly on the beach. Our room was large, clean and spacious. It was decorated with style, beautiful California shutters, king size bed, large bathroom, and a kitchenette. The grounds of the hotel cleaned daily, along with the large swimming pool. We were in walking distance of every restaurant in St. Lawrence Gap, whether you wanted fine dining or casual and elegant, or just a beer at a pub, it is all there. There is a convienent store right next door if needed milk, water (Barbados water is fine, you can drink from the taps), eggs, chips, bagels, whatever you needed. The beach was less than 10 steps away from our room. The view is breathtaking. We just wanted to let the world know that if you are looking for a vacation spot and not sure of which hotel in the Gap, to stay at, look no further. Granted you may pay just a touch more for a room, but it is worth every single penny. The front desk staff, the bellmen, the security guards, which are present on the grounds for our peace of mind, EVERYONE ALWAYS SAYS HELLO. Our recommendation is Southern Palms Beach Club on the island of beautiful Barbados!!! You will not be disappointed!!!!!
We say thank you to everyone at Southern Palms for once again making our stay spectacular.

I went with a freind for her family wedding, there was 21 of us in total. Rooms were clean, only downside was there wasnt not a great deal of wadrobe space so we lived out of our suitcases. You set our of your room and onto the beach, that was fantastic! The food in the bar/restaurant is very tasty if a little overpriced and it took at least half an hour to arrive! free afternoon tea was served by the pool each day and there was a room with a couple of computers to access the internet.
In the second week we went to stay with friends at a villa, but kept our room on and one of the younger members of the group who had been staying with his parents stayed in the room. He didnt have much stuff in it but the night before we were due to check out the room was cleaned as if it was ready for another guest and his cap and some change went missing. On complaining at the front desk, they realised a mistake had been made and the cleaners had thought that we were checking out that day, He didnt get his cap back and we were given many excuses - it was at the laundry etc.
Despite this i would recommend this hotel, all in all it was a good place to stay! Go to Oistins on a Friday evening for a street party, its a 5 minite taxi ride away and it was brilliant!!!
Paradise

We have just returned from a 2week stay at Southern Palms Hotel, Barbados, and are already planning a return visit. The hotel is the largest on St Lawrence Gap, we stayed in an Ocean View Suite which can sleep up to 5 people. It was by far the best accomodation in the hotel, very spacious, spread out on 2floors. It consisted of Kitchenette with hob, fridge, freezer, kettle, toaster, sink and storage space, a spacious lounge and dining area with sofa that opened up into a double bed, a balcony on the first floor, second fllor consisted of double and single bed, walk in spacious closet and bathroom, on this floor there is a roof terrace to the side of the property with almost 360degree views. All rooms come with a television and telephone, to which all local calls are free of charge, we found this very useful as there was a big group of us there for a wedding and were spread over a few hotels, calling other hotels to make arrangements never cost us a penny. We ate at the hotel restaurant on several occasions, and the food was lovely...I reccommend the Jerk Chicken Sandwich if you like a bit of spice! Any food or drink purchased at the restaurant and bar are billed to your room. Your bill can be settled as and when you please. We chose to settle it at the end of each week, which we found was less hassle. The rooms in the hotel are cleaned daily, unless you specify you dont require any service. This included clean bed linen and towels, beach towels are also provided, and can be changed as frequently as you like at the water sports room, so long as these are returned when checking out there is no charge. The use of sunbeds and watersports equipment are free of charge. We never found it difficult to get a sunbed, from what we could tell the hotel was pretty busy but you really cant notice as the hotel is so large, and people tend to spread themselves out over the beach. On the beach you will find locals trying to sell you little tit bits, but a nice "no thanks" is all it takes to send them on their way. The hotel staff seemed friendly, however, do prepare yourself to relax after ordering any food or drink in Barbados as a whole, due to the fact that they are so laid back it usually takes slightly longer than usual to be served. We found the hotel to be very clean, there were no shortage of cleaners around the hotel. Everyday we saw cleaners in and out the rooms, cleaning inside and out, and approx every 3-4days we saw the tiles of the swimming pool being scrubbed in the morning, and the pools are cleaned out everyday also. The hotel is not far from restaurants and bars, and prices for food are not much different than in the UK, drinks prices were quite a lot cheaper, especially if you find out the happy hours in each bar...two for one drinks! Harbour lights is a brilliant night out, this cost approx ?35 and included bbq dinner, entertainment, unlimited drinks, disco until 3am and transfers to and from the hotel. Another must is the Boatyard on a Tues night, look out for the band Strategy, they are brilliant. If you fancy a boat trip by night, try the Harbour Master, this night was also a one off price which includes meal, entertainment and unlimited drinks, this boat also runs during the daytime, and has a large waterslide on the side of the boat! During the day we would reccommend the Tiami Catamaran boat trip. This takes you up the west coast, and stops 3times during the day to swim and snorkel with the fish and turtles and stops off at a lovely cove for approx 1hour to relax on the beach. All food and drinks and return transfers are also included in the cost. All in all, we had an absolutely brilliant time, and cant wait to go back. We could really see why so many travellers just keep on returning.
