I loved the Palais Jamaii. Great views of the medina, peaceful gardens, great pool and good location in Fes. I read the other reviews, but our room had great air conditioning and great service. Food was fantastic, the buffet had fresh vegetables and local fruit and much more. The pastries and desserts were amazing. The Moroccan food is a bit underspiced but still quite good.

A girl I met in a plane said that this is the best hotel in Fez, but the service, the room, the staff, the location. . .everything was disappointing and I really think I should have stayed in a riad. The hotel was like a maze and I got lost many times. The room was OK but looked a bit tired and the door to the terrace wasn't easy to open or to close! The breakfast was good. You can see the town of Fez and the swimming pool from the restaurant you have breakfast at, and I found it quite nice.

This is truly a beautiful property and the rooms are lovely. Service is the downside. It was quite warm while I was there and my air conditioning did not work. I requested service 4 times in my 3 days there. The problem was never fixed, so what could have been a delightful stay turned into a very unpleasant experience. Breakfast was very good, but the dinners were below mediocre and the bar was very overpriced. Sorry folks, but this is not even a 4-star hotel, much less a 5-star!

A very nice hotel, but it seems awkward

Here's the thing about the Sofitel Palais Jamai...it's beautiful, it has nice grounds, and the rooms are very comfortable and stylish. The hotel is a converted palace that emanates a regal air. But it's horribly misplaced. In fact, you feel guilty staying there because of all of the poverty around you. That's what I felt for most of my stay there...guilt.
Here's what I'm talking about. At one of the restaurants (granted it included live belly dancing) the fare for couscous was over 300 dirhams, which seems outrageous given that you could probably get couscous down the street for no more than 10. And where does that money go? To Sofitel, a European chain.
Fes is awesome, and I loved my time there (save for the fact that I got sick), but I would not stay again at the Palais Jamai. Again, the hotel is lovely, but overpriced and gaudy for the spiritual centre of Morocco.
Having said this, my wife and I were both sick, and we were incredibly grateful that we had Western toilets, a comfortable place to stay, and room service for the two days that we could not leave the hotel.
Loved Palais Jamai
