Well, the Royal Carlton is home away from home. I spend about 20 days per month in this hotel. So I know the staff very well, and they are all great!!
The location is perfect - quite, close to the train station (but not in the bad area), and easy walk to the historic center.
They recently put in a new fitness center, which is absolutely top of the line! Amazing!
The restaurant is fantastic. I usually hate hotel food, but this restaurant is great!!
Bar is also wonderful. Very attentive service, great snack, and nice atomsphere.
The hotel is slightly outdated with the decor (to say the least), but it is still tasteful, and clean.
Rooms are large. TV is fabulous. If your traveling for holiday, you probably won't care much about this, but since I basically live there, I'm happy to have full sky tv (many many channels in English too if you want).
Over all I just love this hotel. It is my home away from home (as sad as that is), and a great place to stay.
Oh ... and Paris Hilton rode in the elevator with me once when she was staying there - that was fun star sighting.
Don't read another review - stay at this hotel!

I had read the reviews and knew the hotel catered basically to business clientele. This is true and you may feel like you are invisible but sometimes you need corporate lovely. The rooms are ample, clean, with a large marble bath, a big screen tv, and the breakfast is very satisfactory. Book this hotel only if you've had it with the small, cramped, charming rooms with a view. This one is very close (5 minute walk) to the train station, quiet, and a good respite from the fray, almost like an isolation tank. It could be anywhere. It was just what we needed in the middle of our trip. No surprises here, a ten minute walk to the historic city center. It is what it is. And we loved Bologna.

I stayed at this hotel on business for just under one week and was very pleased.
The staff were friendly and welcoming and my check in very smooth. The entrance lobby and bar area were impressive.
The room itself was a generous size, and decorated to a high standard. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The bathroom was all marble. The mini bar was well stocked and the room had a safe. My only criticism was the location of the shower in the bath, instead of above the taps as usual, the shower head was located on the side wall, which did make it slighty akward to stand under, without water splaying everywhere.
There were regular taxis pulling up outside to take you wherever you needed to go. The hotel is also within walking distance of all restaurants, shops and bars.
The bar in the hotel was relaxing, with attentive waiters and un-parrelled bar snacks! (apart from possibly the Holiday Inn)
I only ate in the restaurant at breakfast, the staff were friendly and there was a large amount of varied food on offer.
All in all, I look forward to returing to this hotel again next year

Great hotel, outside is a little bit plain but the inside is wonderful.
Not to far from the city center, 5 min. by foot. Great rooms with all comfort. Good breakfast. Because it was weekend there were not many people in this great hotel.
There was a great swimmingpool and wirlpool.

Flashy decor, but an old business man's hotel that hasn't updated a lot of things in several decades: old bathrooms, 25 watt bulbs in a single bedside lamp, useless hair dryer, twin beds 3 feet apart--very hard. Service stuffy and not helpful. The worst was the air conditioning, which operates only from noon till 9:00 PM. No amount of pleading could alter this, so you spend a stuffy night. They did give you 2 heavy, scratchy wool blankets--who knows why.
However, the restaurant as A+, the bar service is excellent, and the grounds are very pretty, including a pool and several gazebos for lounging.
