I was slightly nervous about staying at this hotel after reading many of the negative reviews, however, I can't say that I encountered any of the problems that were mentioned in them. To be honest, I feel that many of the problems can be down to individual expectations, rather than actual problems with the hotel. We travel quite a bit and always try and get the best value for money. We dont mind a few small inconvienences if we can get a great bargin. We stayed at the Top Hotel Praha for 5 nights and booked through Easyjet holidays. For flights and accommodation the prize was more than reasonable. Our objective for the trip was to see Prague, to have a comfortable bed for the night and above all to have an enjoyable time. I can honestly say that all the boxes were ticked.
If you are looking for a hotel whose staff wait on you hand and foot and which is located right next to all the tourist spots then this hotel may not be for you. It is located a good 20 minutes from the centre of Prague but it is not difficult at all to get there using public transport. The 115 bus stops at the front of the hotel every few minutes and this takes you to Chodov Centrum which is a huge shopping complex and also where the Metro is located. We did eat in the hotel one evening and the food was delicious, however, it was quite expensive, and the other nights we ate at Chodov centrum which offers many types of cuisine at very reasonable prices. You can also walk to from the hotel to Chodov which we did most times and this only takes 15 minutes.
We did encounter one problem on arrival at the hotel - we were given the keys to our room and when we got to them they were already occupied. We returned to reception and were then allocated two new rooms. One of these rooms was fine but the other room was also occupied. On our return to reception we were given a free upgrade to an apartment room which was much bigger than the standard room. There was a large conference on when we arrived and were told that the hotel was fully booked. Apart from this, we had no further problems and all staff we dealt with were courteous and helpful. As most of the reviews state, the reception and foyer area of the hotel are very impressive and all the facilities in the hotel are very good. The breakfast was excellent and there was a very good selection of food - none of us were hungry afterwards, thats for sure!
We enjoyed are stay in the hotel and found it more than adequate for our requrements. Yes, it is a busy hotel and due to its size there are a lot of people in the reception and foyer areas, but not in a bad way. As far as I could see everyone was happy and enjoying themselves as well. Like I said, it all depends what you want and what you expect. There is nothing wrong with the hotel and I would recommend it to others. The corridors were quiet at night and we didnt encounter any unsavoury characters at all! We got what we paid for, and more! To get closer to Prague and a more personal environment you will have to pay ?15 or ?20 a night more. We dont mind walking a little and we can forgive a couple of computer errors for the rooms. I suppose you can be unlucky where ever you go and it is always possible to have a bad experience, but this hotel doesnt deserve all teh bad press it gets from reviewers here and as I said, I would recommend it.

stayed at the top hotel praha in july 08 , when arrived was shown our room which was best described as student accomodation ! / poor travel lodge room .
was told we could pay extra for a better room so we chose a suite for about ?35 extra per night.
room was much better but not usa 4* standard but clean and tidy.
great travel links from the hotel with a cheap bus service from outside and you will be in the heart of prague in 30 mins.
beware of tourist prices in prague it has gone up 10 times the amount compaired to 5 years ago not as cheap as it used to be.

i went on a coach to prague and was really excited because i had always wanted to see prague. the big problem was i never got to see prague hardly. i went with my parents, the hotel was across a motorway from prague centre, the surroundings of the hotel was nothing. not so much as a bar or restaurant. i can ignore a rubbish hotel if i don't spend much time there but there were no transportation into prague other than the metro, so i ended up spending all my time there. apart from the location, the hotel was awful. the entrance to the hotel was nice but then we got shown into the servants quarters or something because it was disgusting. the lift was like one in a warehouse, the staff were not friendly at all. the bedrooms were like of a 2 star hotel. the shower flooded the room everytime i put it on. but by far the worst thing about the hotel was the food, the only thing me and my parents could trust eating was the cakes. you could not tell what animal the meat was from, the mash was like smash, but worst tasting. we could not bear to try most of the food. the leisure facilities would be okay if you did not have to pay extortionate prices. the bars were not comfortable and the casino was pathetic.
as for prague, what we saw of it, it was very beautiful. the old town was the place to be. the castle was very good, the bridge was good, but the best thing i saw was a string quartet in a church by the bridge. BE VERY CAREFUL ON THE ROADS, MY MOTHER NEARLY GOT RUN OVER CROSSING A ROAD. the traffic lights last about 3 seconds and the traffic does not wait until you have crossed.
dont bother with the czech cuisine, the best food, are in the old town, near the astronomical clock and serve english cuisine.

The is not yet a hotel, it was once I understand a worker's hostel and still looks and feels like one. Indeed the two blocks at the front right are still occupied by workers of some kind.
My double room turned out to be a twin and no amount of discussion would get them to agree there is a difference.
Staff were generally rude, and most speak no/poor English.
They charge about ?6.00 ($12.00) per night to park, which might be fine except the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, and the only parking restrictions are created by the hotel.
Parking in front of the hotel is reserved for "VIPs". Guests, even disabled guests don't count.
Breakfast is a joke, with poor quality food, watered-down orange juice and dirty table cloths.
Worst of all nobody cares. Rooms are tatty, dirty, and with cheap see through curtain drapes. There is no management on view and whole place seems to run on auto-pilot.
I filled out a guest comment card, which asked for my e-mail address, which I provided, so far there has been no feedback!
This hotel is a sad reflection on Prague, on the same trip, we stayed at the Jalta in town, which was a fine hotel for the price.
Stay away - stay well away from the Top.

We have booked for over a month ago 2 rooms, double bed rooms. When we arrived at the hotel, we found out there were no rooms left of the type we chose. They gave us what they had and which was unsatisfying. The employees gave us no reason, no solution and were very rude, as for a 2 stars hotel, but not 4! Not all of them spoke English. In the night was so much noise in the hotel that we couldn't sleep. The walls are so thin that you can hear your next-door neighbour. Overall i suggest you to find another hotel to stay in. There are so many hotels in Prague that you can find and much better.
