This was my second stay at the Taj in Lucknow. As far as I know this is the only 5 star hotel in the area.
Check in was fast and courteous, Indian hospitality at its best.
The rooms are spacious but a little bit dated but clean and with all the amenities you expect including good boradband connection (wifi). The minibar was empty but they were quick to bring drinks after I notified the front desk.
Breakfast was great, a large choice of continental and local food, as well as eggs on order.
The travel desk organised all our trips easilly.
I will go back to this hotel.

A lovely place for Christmas

I met friends for Christmas at the Taj. It was a last minute decision and I didn't book the hotel, they did.
I was pleasantly surprised, far more upmarket than I would usually stay in India however as a place to celebrate Christmas it was lovely. The rooms were very comfortable the food in the lobby restaurant was good and the service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for the reception staff from anything from asking directions in the local area to recommending taylors.
When one of our friends sat down at the piano in the foyer to play christmas carols while we sang along... even this was not a problem for the staff or other guests.

This hotel started out well, but because its not in th heart of the city, it didnt get lots of people and the wear and tear shows.
I was there for 3 days, and the service is a little sluggish. The food at the coffee shop is nothing to write home about. Its a good hotel and probably still the best in Lucknow, but it isn't living up to the 5-star rating.

My husband and I stayed at the Taj for 5 days to attend a wedding that was taking place there, and we were amazed at the quality of service, facilities, amenities, and dining the hotel had to offer. We are seasoned travelers and typically stay at high-end hotels such as the Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, etc. and were pleasantly surprised by the Taj. In particular, the service is excellent-- look for Vibhu at the front desk. The staff is very eager to help the guests in any way possible, and went far beyond the call of duty to assist us. Another highlight-- the pool and surrounding areas are impeccably clean and well-maintained by any Western standards. And, finally, this hotel manages to keep a quiet and elegant ambiance even when it is full to capacity. While the hotel is not located in downtown Lucknow (which is actually preferable, as the neighborhood is less hectic), the travel desk was always available to arrange an air-conditioned car to take us to any destination of our choice. Highly recommend this hotel-- will stay there for sure next time we're in Lucknow!!
